Cleaning LS injectors
I recently tried to crank my 5.3, after it's been sittting for 4yrs..
Quickly found out the injectors were plugged...at least that's the suspicion So heres what I've done so far I machined me a aluminum adapter to go from a can of carb cleaner to the injectors I 5min epoxied one of the cleaner straws into the adapter The injector slides in the end and the oring seals it off.. I used o-ring lube on the o-rings to keep from causing any damage to them I bought a cheap injector controller off ebay..it allows for 4 different setting, I used #4 that is the continuous firing mode.. I cut a injector plug out of the old harness to connect the controller to the injector Then you simply mash the go button on the carb cleaner can and it blasts the cleaner thru the injector.. Found out quick you've got to hold the alum adapter onto the injector, it WILL build enough pressure to blow it apart... Dont ask..Haha 2 of them were completely jammed up and at 1st wouldnt fire..took some time to get them loose I'm gonna run them thru the ultrasonic cleaner for a while..I forgot to get the seafoam when I was in town..then I'll flush them all again with the carb cleaner setup, and keep my finger crossed that it works If it works I hope it helps someone else

Re: Cleaning LS injectors
Well, I ran the injectors thru the ultrasonic cleaner with seafoam..i ran it at 180deg for 30 min..
This is what came out of them so far, theres more crud in the drain After the 30min cycle I hooked each one up to the injector controller and suspended them in the seafoam, set the fire cycle on continuous, and ran each one at 180deg for another 15min cycle.. It got dark so I can't see how much ,if anymore crud i removed.. I'll spray them again with the carb cleaner setup and maybe thatll be good enough

Re: Cleaning LS injectors
Nice set up...I did one similar with a pieces of delrin plastic rod
I bored it deep enough to hold the injector and some Seafoam and attached an air hose fitting and pressure regulator to the other end I poured some liquid in with zero pressure, pushed the injector in an brought the pressure up to about 20 psi.... I did have to hold it in place and thought about making some kind of keeper for it but it's only gonna be used a few times. Once the pressure was set, I just used an old MC battery with alligator clips to fire the injector to see if it was clear....two were stuck so I simply reversed them and back flushed.... Whether or not this was correct I don't know, but after I installed them back in the engine, it ran like a champ...

I had sent my injectors off to have them cleaned and flow tested about 4 years ago, soon after I bought the engine....but they sat in a box all that time. I called the people who did the test and they told me yes....by all means...they would stick just from sitting so long, even after they were cleaned... Good work my friend, nice to be able to fab up little handy tools...!
