oil & trans fluid
I'm getting ready to do the first fluid changes on Sanity. I've got break-in oil in the engine and I am going to change the trans fluid in order to do a little work on it and remove the temporary filter. I know what my go to fluids are but I am curious to see what other members use. I've got a 350 with a 700r4 trans. I am also in AZ now rather than OR so what weight oil should I run for the high temps down here in Tucson

Re: oil & trans fluid
The oil weight depends on how the engine was built. What's the spec? Crate motor?

Re: oil & trans fluid
I always run an oil high in zinc. Some guys use Rotella or Delo. I have been running Lucas Hot Rod 10w30 in my 327 for some time. Castrol also makes an oil high in zinc called "Classic". Better for old style flat tappet engines.
As for the trans, Dexron III. Take care, JC62

Re: oil & trans fluid
I really don't need a recommendation on what to use in my particular engine but I was just curious as to which brand oil and trans fluid are your go-to brands. I know my favorites. what are yours?
Right now I'm running Castrol high zinc break-in oil For those who missed my point. here you go. New GM 350HO long block with LT1 heads (flat tappet) Edelbrock Performer manifold and 650 carb Speedway Ram Horn exhaust manifolds 700R4 heavy duty built with a Transgo kit And I should mention that I'm in Tucson AZ with temps up to 115 in the summer and a few days in the winter where it dips below 32.

Re: oil & trans fluid
Thanks for the reply. It's great to hear from a Tucson member. That's great info. Do you mind me asking what part of Tucson you're in?
