Inner Door Handle Alignment

In order to keep from hi-jacking another member's thread, I figured I would start my own.

I've always hated the way my inner door handles leaned inward into the cup and didn't sit straight.

Thanks to member Keith Seymore for letting me know that there is supposed to be a rubber stopper to keep the inner handle from going too far into the cup.

Bumper should go in the circled area as shown. This was Keith's picture of his so I could understand what he meant.

I found some small rubber gromets that fit great on both my door handles.

My passenger side inner door handle also sagged horizontally so I added a modified split washer to act as a bushing/spacer/alignment thing.

You can see it as the shiny part at the bottom. If anyone knows a better way to fix the horizontal sag, I'm all ears! Otherwise, this seems to work fine.

I will add some pictures of my corrected handles later, had to get cleaned up and have dinner.

I always just used pliers and bent/shortened the door handle rod.
Straightened them right out.

Wished I had known this. I just assumed it was the way they are. You see it literally on every door.

After looking closer at my pictures, the passenger seems fine. But the drivers door is in a little.

I have just got used to it.

Now I will have to pull the door panel and fix it.

I'm not sure if that grommet in the OP will be tough enough. Maybe it's tougher than it looks, dunno.

I thought about using Fuel line or something, but you might actually have to use plex tubing or some small pvc. This "gasket" will be constantly smooshed between the two pieces of metal. Just being plastic would take the noise way down.

What was the factory one like? Must have been pretty durable.

I will see how long that grommet lasts, then try fuel line.
