60-66 to 73-87 Transfer...
I have 62 GMC dually... ideally I'd like to transfer its power train and body over to a 73+ frame.. Cab n chassis to Cab n chassis.
Parts of like to transfer: Cab. Front clip. Engine. Transmission. Rear end. If possible to swap over I'd be looking for a 2wd with a 60 inch cab to axle. Mike |

One is a VIN matter, but depending your State you live in, it may not matter. The other reason is the shape of the 73+ frames. I guess they bump up under the cab so it makes the whole truck sit higher on the frame. Probably look fine for a 4x4. . It's been said that the 73+ suburbans don't have this bump up and our trucks could potentially sit correctly, but I don't know if anyone has ever confirmed. . The most well known thread on this topic might be linked in the FAQ's.

Is your frame bad? Why do you want to switch them?

If your original frame isn't bad, your best course of action is to put the front suspension and rear axle from the squarebody on your 62 frame

On a square body truck frame you will end up with a 3" body lift unless you do some serious modifications

Re: 60-66 to 73-87 Transfer...
I was going to do the front end swap but looking closer my 62 frame is all beat up and starting to have soft spots... So I'd being saving a dying frame.. So I was trying to find out what I'd need to get for a frame to slide under the truck.
I don't want a square body powertrain I want the 62s powertrain fan blade to rear end. So figured if the front swaps why not the frames😂 Apparently that's not easily done shame they don't make much for dually parts. So I need a 60 inch cab to axle cab n chassis frame I can put the GMC V6/4spd/Diff into. Mike |

Re: 60-66 to 73-87 Transfer...
You could try to find another 60-62 frame, a 63-66 would work but the bed mounts won't line up and the frame horns where the bumper mounts will be different. Then 67-72 with the same mods needed with the 63-66 frame.
