64 chevy truck 12 bolt

Do some truck 12 bolts have a thin spacer/shim behind the axle bearing? Like it would be spacer/shim, then bearing and seal?

Re: 64 chevy truck 12 bolt

When i did bearings on my 63 i noticed it. In my mind, its a shield, to keep oil on the bearing if there is a leak and level drops low for no oil to be in tube, i could be wrong but thats what i make of it.

Cheers.
Adriaan.

Thank you for answering that for me. Cause I was changing my bearings and seals and came across this and it seemed like a factory installed item but just wanted to confirm.
