Blazer finally on the road, going broke now
I finally got my 71 CST K5 project on the road last weekend after 3 months of getting her roadworthy. This $1500 Ebay purchase now is mechanically sound ($4000 in new parts). Now it's time to turn my attention to the body and interior. I put a new Edelbrock Q-Jet 750 CFM carburetor with a new performer intake, heddman headers, and an edelbrock fuel pump all on the stock 350 motor. The thing runs like a champ, and is plenty powerful, but I cannot believe how much gas this thing uses. Is 750CFM too much? What would you recommend, and what will I sacrifice elsewhere to save some gas money? Also, my tank is only taking 13 gallons at the pump. Gauge is fine. Is this a stock tank??

My 72 holds 20 gallon and that does not get you far! I am running a 350 with Edelbrock 1406 (600 cfm) carb, holley intake, and hei. No headers yet or cam. TH350,np 203, and 3:07 gears. 14mpg last trip but around town is 9-10 mpg. Getting ready to try out a 700 R4 overdrive tranny and set of 3:73's or 4:10's. Enjoy,moodyholler

I'd go with Moodyholler and his 600cfm for a stock 350. A 650cfm would be max. Don't know if that would make a huge dif in mileage but from what I've read/heard that should be plenty for a stock 350.

Oh yeah, the stock Blazer tank should be 20 gallons.

Sounds to me like fuel gage is probably off. My main tank is around 20 and my side tanks are around 13 each. Take a picture of the tank and we can probably tell you if it is the correct one. I haven't heard of an after market tank that is smaller than the stock ones.

If you keep your foot out of it the quad is the Key. If you motor needs a 550 cfm Carb then the quad is a 550. Quad can only supply as much as the motor can pull. It is self adjusting vacuum operated. It is far better off road then the Hogleys and that has been provem many times by the magazines.
Its a big heavy truck. 10mpg is about the norm. If your doing better your lucky or your odometer is off.
