i`m with toddtheodd... my chevy 2 was lookin like a total pile. no hood, some a$$hole backed into my rear 1/4, it was all primer, looked like a total turd. underneath i had a 383 stroker, a manual valve body ati trans, 5:13 gears and 18.50/31.50/15" mickey t`s. car was back halfed with ladder bars and coil overs. when that back rear passenger side squatted down and those front tires come off the ground and you just busted some kids butt in his daddy`s mustang or vette it was the coolest thing. that`s why s10 v8`s are so cool too, if you ever get them to hook up good.

Hot Rod
Mine will have the "Old School" look. Semi gloss black with flames. Should be ready to paint in a week or two.

I'm going for the "Old Workhorse Ratty Rod" look. Current plans include adding period correct dog dish hubcaps and putting a 'Peace" sign on the plow, because it's a real "piece"
As a matter of fact this truck has obtained such notoriety within this genre that member XXL hailed it as : "... a ratty old ****box rustbucket whose sole purpose is to sit under a tree catching sap and leaves until you need to clear your driveway." You see it has "instant" recognition. Back on topic, I like this Hot Rod/Rat Rod genre. It sure beats the slammed and bagged low-rider look. Good work Txfirefighter and all!

I just got done with blasting and polishing my American racing "cokebottle"or "daisy"wheels. They are from a 1972 c/10 that was a leftover. The dealer put them on to move the truck in 73.A friend of mine bought it brand new.Wheels are the only thing left.My sub will be painted orange,or black. Not much into all the "billet' anyway.

I think of mine as a hotrod
If I could post picks you'd see. The main think seems to be that I suck at body work, so the drive train is pretty well set.

While my C-10 is more of a resto rod, I thought I heard somebody say flathead?? Yeah I've got a flathead V-8 in my '23 c-cab Ford TT truck. Got finned aluminum buick drums up front, 9" in the rear. That one is my Hotrod.

i guess you could consider mine a "Hot Rod" with a 500ci Caddy , Locker and its $.99 a can Flat Black Primer. I just dont have any reason to paint it right now, I kinda like the primer look.(i would rather have a truck that looks like a beater and has ba!!s than to have one that is all show and no go).I just love driving it downtown and having guys in their rice rockets(and some in Mustangs and Camaros)pull up along side me and hearing them say that it looks like a piece of crap, and doesn't sound like its fast and leaving them sitting at the stoplight like they were standing still

I have plans to build an old school type rod but its not going to be my truck. The truck did give up the future motor though... a 71 LT1 . So many ideas, not enough room, time or money to complete all of them.

I pulled over to check out a 69 shortbed at a used car dealership this morning. The truck was like a timecapsle. CalCustom covers, dished chrome cleaner, blue sparkle steering wheel, etc.
I was able to talk the guy out of this cool Dixco tach:

Someone at work referred to mine as a "hotrod truck". I had to laugh, I know it's not fast, but I've got plans...
The cars and trucks I remember most were hotrods from the late 60's and early 70's when I was in high school from '84 - '87. Of course, I had a Mustang II to work with at the time.

the one i am working on and driving now is my work truck but i have a 62 lwb stepside fresh off of the farm waiting for a motor, i am thinking of a 409 with a tri carb setup and a 4spd maybe some 4.11s in the rear but leave the rust and dents and the whole in the rear fender that looks like it was made from a bulls horn, maybe a set of wide whites on chrome reverses and no tailgate on the truck, oh and cant forget the spare tire holder with no tire on it.

Nice find! I have got to have one of those for my custom-rod project.
ACK Hit the reply button too quick..... My plans are to lay frame on slam air bags, detune the 383 that's in it to around 300hp, it lays 400HP to the ground now and just MELTS the 295's that are on the rear while getting 7-8 mpg with O/D on the freeway. The whole truck will have a clean shave except for the drip rails (too many problems with them in friends trucks), straight pipes, and a flat black primer job with some orange primer flames. I hear ya!
I grew up around 1st gen f-bodies and my dad still has his 1st.. my 72 is a semi-budget minded project, plans to just build it in 2 months time, slap in my 454 out of my other old project and rebuild my t-400 and add a floor shift...slap on a decent paint job and let the duel 40 series flows relax my brain as I cruise on a nice sunday morning what I am building.. here is mine as it sits awaiting my sandblster mayhame so far 320.00 in it,not counting tranny build. I have even thought about flat black..but I also want flashy paint at the same time |

Everything I build is"period-correct".I respect what others do,don`t always like it.My`71 CustomCamper/20(Cheyenne in disguise)is Ochre/White,White(snap-on)tonneau,8"/10"Aluminun Slots,9.50/12.50 straight treads,Headers/Duals(stock exit),and everything an SS396 would have(402,TH400,4.11,posi,&tach).It even has the extended Bar&Shield sticker bottom-center(split for slider)of back window that Harley was using at the time.I consider it what I call"Hybrid-Factory".A couple other little touches are:"KeepOnTruckin"license frame and chromed ashtray&glovebox door w/woodgrain applique to match dash bezel.Interior is Saddle.

I`m looking for 9.75x16.5 Aluminum slots and Turbines (sets of 4) for my trucks.I like the heavy-haulers,but I`m gettin`around to my`72 C/10 shorty.The body will come last,as I`m goin`RatRod-style with power(go),brakes(stop),and suspension(handling/stance)coming first before it moves.It`s presently a lt.grey primered fleetside,somewhat straight and solid.The bed has the"Buckshot"rust in the hind-quarter.It`ll most likely evolve into a`67GMC stepside(got parts),although,like I said,that`ll come last.The wheels`ll be 8/10 OEM style,then if it ends-up purdy,probably some kinda Torque-Thrusts(long way off).It`s like paint,"not sayin`till I leave for the paint store".
