"Brake" light flashing on my dash- HELP??

On my 90 Suburban 4x4 the brake light on the dash flashes 6 times then repeats itself, what does this mean, I can't see to find a referrence chart anywhere. Thanks for the help- Steve

low brake fluid? how bout the brakes them selves? if no one offers otherwise try asking a brake shop

Thanks, I checked the fluid and it's still full. The light had been on solid for a week or so, it's one long light (maybe a second) then 6 quick flashes- then repeats itself. The service engine soon light hasn't come on yet. Guess I better ask somebody at a shop tomorrow- it would suck to loose my brakes on the freeway..

My '89 Suburban did something similar. It was because the rear brake drums were worn to the point that it was overextending the wheel cylinders and dropping the pressure in the system. The brakes still worked, but there was a HUGE difference in braking once I dumped $600 into the brakes...that hurt the ol' wallet, but a lot less than losing the brakes!

Hey, how does your 'burb handle on 35's? Mine has 33's (4" lift) and the steering feels a little loose comparted to my stock '87 pickup. I've replaced the steering box and the entire front axle assembly. It's a lot better now, but the steering box still feels loose to me.

Take the two plugs in the abs computer by the master cly. and unplug them both for 5 minutes. Plug them back in. This will reset the unit . This is a get you into the dealer to (overhual the abs system) that dont need to be done. If this doesn't work i have a book with codes here. Erick

Have you done a burnout lately??????????
This throws the speed sensor off and will set a code.

I don't think my burb has ABS but i'll look again, and that pig wouldn't do a burnout out if it's life depended on it!!! LOL.
1987 Sierra- the steering feels loose, just like it did with the 33's- I've replaced all the steering linkage on the burb and it still feels loose, I have a steering stabilizier on it now, might try a dual unit.

The 90 that I had did the same thing and my buddy that works for the local GM dealer told me to unplug the ABS plug next to the master cylinder for about a minute and it will reset as earlier stated and it worked. Checked the brakes and they were all fine. He said sometimes if you smash the brakes real hard it will do it or if you wheeling and are on the the brake s alot it will also do it.

what do you mean by loose...like really good power steering or a lot of play? the play is tightenable (is that a word?)

The steering has some play in it, I figured that's just the way it is...

Mine feels loose (no road feel) until you start turning off center, but cruising down the road I have to constantly correct (especially a rough road). My '87 is rock steady, the 'burb is loose. I'm going to try some anti-sway bar disconnects from Off-Road Design. They raise the bar slightly and relieve the lateral tension imposed by the lifted springs...which is of course just a side-effect of the design, but I'll take what I can get!

My GM dealer tightened the steering box as much as he dared to...if you tighten them too much, you can damage the gear...or so I'm told. I think my pump may be going too...that may be part of it...

When i put my 6" lift, I made my own sway bar drops, just stacked pieces of 1/2" thick plate between the mount and the frame, steering still sucks though. Hey Thanks to everyone for the help, I unplugged the ABS (which I didn't even know I had...) and tyhe light went out!!!!

what you need instead of sway bars are edelbrock shocks some good ones or something
