Key cylinder
When an ignition lock is mounted on the steering wheel (mine is a '73) what holds the little chrome tabs that help you turn the key into the column? I know that it is supposed to be able to come off when it is in the ACC position but what makes it stay on. Mine keeps falling off. I have gotten a couple from the junkyard and installed them but they won't stay in. Does the coulmn hol it or the cylinder that the key goes in hold it? I don't want to buy a new part for it and it still not work.

Key cylinder
GM changed the key cylinder sometime during the 78 model year. Post 78 change and later use a screw to hold the key cylinder in. You need the earlier style key (73-77) cylinder which does not have a notch for the screw. I have the same problem with my 78, as I have a later model key cylinder and it falls out and is not able to make the acc. switch work.
