Will a 69 body bolt onto a 74 frame?
I have a good line on a 74 rolling chassis that already has an engine on it and is ready to go. Will my 69 body bolt onto it with no problems? I realize this may be wishful thinking, not sure though.
Also, I am still in need of the metal bed floor to fit my 69. If I took a LWB bed floor, could I cut off some of the excess to fit my SWB. I know that the bed floors from 67-88 are pretty much interchangeable with the exception of a few holes, but I'd love to know if this will work. Thanks all, Tom

no. If you wanted to do a body lift, (kinda dumb on a 2 wheel drive) and modify the wheel base a bit, you could make it work, but your better off just pulling the engine off of it, and pulling the front cross member to easily swap the 5 lug/disc brakes. |

There must be rolling 4x4 frames around. Do a search first unless you are in a hurry.
Too bad I am so far north for I have a couple, one 1/2 one 3/4. Good bodies are harder to find IMO.

I wouldn't do it. You'll be reviled by the 73-87 guys and ostracized by the 67-72 crowd...the proverbial bastard child. Of course you'll have Mudder to pal around with... J/K

Ok, so I really don't have a definitive answer yet. Mudder 67 has had success with it and is obviously a pro.......but throw me some bones here folks! Also, I never did here if I could cut down the long bed floor with relative ease to fit a short bed.

Not easy at all
Unless you are ready to do a bunch of fabricating dont try it , you will have to fab up all the body mounts and raise the body well above the frame .

Hmmmmmm, I knew someone than put a 67 on a newer chassis, wish I could remember who it was. For some reason, the name should be very familiar to me.

Using the old body mounts, you attach them to the outside of the frame in almost the same location as the newer ones were on the inside. I actually used some of the same holes that were there. I have less than 3 inches of body lift on my bed. If i would have used a high hump I could have gotten away with no lift under the bed/2 under the front clip and about 2 under the front cab mounts. Very few people realize that my truck sits on a newer frame. When you put the cab on the frame you have to be very careful that you can get the distributor in and out.
Now cutting a bed is a different story........ |
