12 or 10 bolt rear?
My 72 GMC has a 10 bolt rear end. Did they come stock with those? I thougnt i heard somewhere that they had 12 bolt?

Stock should have been a 12 bolt.
You may have a later truck rearend, like a late 70's, early 80's vintage one in your truck.

all of our trucks had 12's stock, correct?

except the danas and the eaton/corp trucks....other than those two, yes they were all 12 bolt.

It would not surprise me if you had a dana 60 semifloater or a dana 44 in the rear. I have seen them before in other GMC's.
