WTB: 1 Ton Front Coils Springs
I was told that if I put 1 Ton springs on my truck I could get the front of it up about an inch or two so I could get just a little bigger tires on it so if this is true and maybe you guys could help me out (Please) that's what I want to do.
If you got 'em I want 'em: 1 Ton Front Coil Springs for my '71 GMC 1/2 ton ![]()

I had a similar problem with the Moog HD springs. I had to have someone press down on the control arm with a breaker bar while I lifted the spring into place...

i dont know about you guys but i replaced my 1/2 ton springs with either 1 ton or 3/4 ton (i think at auto zone they were the same part#) springs and i did it by myself in my driveway with nothing but a floor jack and a little bit of elbow grease. i had done it before on my 82 and that was easier bc it was on a lift. as long as you can drop the lower control arms down far enough to slip the spring into place then get a jack underneath you can reattach your ball joint nut and thats most of the work. just be prepared to get your front end aligned or else you'll feather the tar out of your tires.

What we're talking about is, the springs are so stiff, the truck will jack up off of the stands before the spring compresses enough to get the ball joint nut started.

i realize how stiff those springs are- and they stay stiff! my 1/2 ton short/step stayed on the stands long enough to start the nut, so, beagler, you shouldnt have too much difficulty swapping out the springs, and it adds 1.5"-2" to your ride height at least.

![]() YEP .. I REBUILT THE WHOLE FRONTEND (UPPER & LOWER BALL JOINTS, UPPER & LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHINGS, ALL TIE ROD ENDS). I FIGURED THIS WOULD BE A 3 OR 4 HOUR JOB..... IT WOUND UP TAKING 3 DAYS .(QUOTE)so, beagler, you shouldnt have too much difficulty swapping out the springs/(QUOTE) SO DON'T TRY & CONVINCE ME IT IS A SIMPLE JOB. ![]() ![]()

chevy 74- What kind of engine does yours have? bb or sb? Just curious as this might be the reason yours stayed on the stnads long enough.
JunkYardJohn- same question same reason. also what kind of springs would y'all recommend? stock or some other kind? is there any other way I could get the lift without a body lift kit?

I made a spring compressor from some 1/4 inch flat plate. The plates have 2 nubs welded on them that fit inside the coil and holes big enough for all-thread on the outside. The nubs keep it from slipping out while compressing. Works good for home made.

my truck had a 250 inline 6 in it when i did the lift, so the weight was not the issue. now its got a 350 sbc in there- as of last week.

Yes the springs I have are still on the frame. I'll take them off and get you a shipping price. It'll be a day maybe two though. They looked okay, but I'll take a better look and get you a pic when their off. Thank's Jason.
