Anyone who has changed control arm shafts
Hi there,
I have a question... I layed the new Lower control arm shafts out on the bench tonight, and I noticed that they are different! They seem to be exact in their width but one has a longer thread run (About 3/8") on both ends, The shafts are not made by a different company or anything it almost seems like it could be right. Can anyone confirm if I do have the right set? If need be I could snap a photo and get it online tomorrow to show the difference. The passenger side control arm is the only old one I had around to compair it matches up exactly with one of the new control arms I was wondering if the drivers side was different? Thank you Curt

I just changed out my Drivers side lower and upper and will do the passenger side this week end. What brand did you buy? The swap is pretty easy if you know the right steps. Yes.....I will explain more if you need.
Drivers side is the same.

Advance Auto has all TRW stuff...Auto Zone has the same parts just there brand Dura Last.

shafts? do you mean the bar that the bushings connect to? I know that on my 67, the 67 ball joints are smaller than later years. I swapped my front suspension for a 71 with disks. From what I can remember, I believe the "shafts" were the same length on both sides and on both suspensions....the 71 had a bent lower cotrol arm on the pass. side so I had to use my 67 lower control arm. truck rides like a new one!

Probably just lack of quality control in Taiwan or someplace.

I would reccomend you guys that are going to do this swap....Buy TRW or MOOG parts...Made in the U S of A and just better in my opinion.

When I replaced those parts on my '72, the passenger & driver side were identical.

Here is a picture...
The shafts are exactly the same length and Diameter. But as you can see the shaft closest has more of a thread run than the other. Is this just poor quality control? Thanks again Curt

They should be they same. I would use TRW or Moog parts also. AdvanceAuto carries TRW, The only problem I have had is missing parts from the boxes, which is why I buy local so I can take them back.

They are available from summit.
I recently purchased a complete front end rebuild kit from summit, not as a kit but all the individual parts.
And guess what guys, it is all moog and moog is being made in mexico. So maybe the old chevy will be "spicy" when I get finished with the front suspension.

I'd take them back. One of the two is wrong, you can compare to your old shaft to determine which. I put Moog shafts on last summer, only problem was a missing seal, which my parts man took care of for me.
