All I know is my`91 3/4t 4wd diesel came with a 4L80E.I`m guessing lighter applications may have used 4L60Es.

The easy way to tell there is a round plug on the pass side above the pan by the cooler lines . If so its a 4l80e and if not its a 700r4. This is one of those GM split year parts deals . Leftovers or new whatever they had that day.

I'll take a look but I thought even the 700R4 had a plug like that--there was one on my '84 half ton IIRC. . .

the tcc (tourque converter clutch) wires are on the drivers side. 4 pin con. if there is a plug on the pass side then its a 4l80e.

Is this a general question or are you trying to identify what`s in yours? What is yours,by the way?Is it 2wd or 4wd,1/2 t or 3/4t?With towing package?`91 was the first year for OD in 3/4t.Mine has a 4L80E.

1/2-ton is a TH700, technically 4L60 (no 'E' until '93).

For '91 the 4L80E replaced the TH400 in 3/4-tons.
