Anyone install an Autometer Tach? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I got an 8000rpm Autogage by autometer tach for christmas. Since the wiring does not reach the fuse block I am going to get some more wire and a connector to plug into the HEI. My ? is where did you connect your other wires to? Where did you run the ground, 12V switched power, and 12V dash lighting?

THere is a termina on the fuse box that will turn the light on and off (and brightness too) . Look in the FAX for a labeled pic
The green wire goes to the HEI tach terminal
the black...just ground that one anywhere under the dsh. I normally use the bolt that holds the plate with the brake pedal stops. Right under the steering column.

Ok so if I am reading it right I will connect the white wire (light source) to the panel light fuse, and the red (power) the cluster feed or the ign unfused?

Be sure that you have an inline fuse around 3 or 5 amps Since most of the fuses that control the terminals on the fuse box are 15A+ and the tach calls for a small fuse IIRC

Ive got all my Tachs wired up with a blade inline fuse holder I have my ground More than likley hooked on the same bolt as earlier stated.

The 12V And The Ilumination Wires are plugged into the fuse box And The Green One Goes To the Tach

The Cluster Feed Is The Panel Lights.

If you use IGN Unfused Be sure To Put An Inline In.. Fuses are cheaper than tachs.

White -- Plug Into Cluster Feed
BLK -- Ground
Red 12V-- IGN Only
Green -- Tach

Ok I got it out now. I went to Parts store to get fuzes and some wire. No one had any terminal connectors to plug into the hei. Once I get that part from a yard off another hei dist I should have it all connected. Thanks for the help guys you

femail spaid connector will work fine.
If you do the junk yard route, grab the wire off an olds or a caddy where the dist is way up front. That way you can chop off 3 feet of wire, and route a single wire under the hood instead of making another connection.
