97 computer?? needed
I found a low mile vortec 350 complete & tranny out of a 97 truck. I want to put this in my 92.the thing it doesn't have is the computer and harness. Anybody know where I can find one? or atleast what I should expect to pay.
Thanks, D |

You will probally need an aftermarket harness as the 97 harness is also part of the body harness,You also need the mass air flow meter, ecm, and the fuel pump pressure is 35-45 lbs for the vortec motor.. But as far as bolting it in,not a bad job.... Try looking for a harness ,some companys ask you what you are putting it in and what year engine and will make a custom one...Hope this helps some,Erick

Try painless for your harness and Street and Performance should be able to get you a computer (although finding one at the junk yard would be much cheaper.)

I disagree with bisquik, you will need a pump that can maintain 60 psi. the vortec needs a minimum of 50 psi to start up. most vortecs i have worked on maintain 55 to 62 psi. you might be able to get a tank and all out of a vortec truck and bolt it in yours. it would be easier than trying to retrofit a different pump on to your tank setup.
try http://www.car-part.com for a good idea of junkyard prices...

You should be able to just swap in pump and sending unit in your tank. as far as harness goes since you don't have one you can buy for price http://www.paceparts.com/index.asp?P...D&ProdID=73236 and get computer from salvage yard. You also need to consider if you going to keep all yhe emissions or not. I'm still learning on this also,so if I'm wrong on any of this please chime in.

Summit is cheaper than Pace for the painless harness. If you do not keep the emissions, you will need to reprogram the computer, Speartech out of IN can do it for you. I will look and see if I still have there website.

emissions will have to stay, atleast as long as I stay in this county... which that doesn't look like it's gonna change.

Check out some local salvage yards for what you need, I might be able to help you out on the harness if you need a stock one. BTW nice website

You can modify the stock harness to fit the older trucks. Better than paying over $500 for one from painless.
In fact there is a company on ebay that will do it for you for around $200 I think.

I initially had mine modified, cost me $400 dollars for an LT-1. It had no fuses, lots of electrical tape, and any thing I planned on deleting, the wiring was just clipped and tucked into the loom. I would spend a little more the first time and go with a good harness. I junked the original and got a painless. It hurt for the money but was more than worth it.

Hey Npilot, what did you do to make the AC compressor clear on your truck. Did you just notch? Got a project with an LT-1 in a 70. Thanks
