i have always heard that the will chew up a motor, but last time this was brought up quite a few people said that it is a old wifes tale. maybe someone that has acctually ran one will chime in for ya

well, my 69 had one in it when i bought it... i dont know about it chewing up the engine, but i do know after a 300 mile trip i was ready to tear down the front of the engine in the hotel parking lot and take the thing out... ive got an oil pan gasket and timing chain cover gasket sitting here thats gonna go on there to get rid of that thing (and hopefully stop the leaks in the process!)

been running my edelbrock for at least 25k miles daily driver that regularly sees 6500rpm. the 2 years or so i worked in a machine shop never did i see one engine come in that was destroyed by a gear drive. i personally have no problem with them. theres too many other factors that can come into play for it to be said that the gear drive caused a cam to go bad or whatever. i have seen hundreds of wiped cams that had a timing chain attached to em so who knows

I'm runnin' a Pete Jackson "Quite". I love it. It has a slight wine, just the way I like it. Installation was real easy. They are reliable and accurate. However a good quality "double roller" timing chain can last a long time as well. So really it's just a matter of preference. Personally I like having the gear drive just because it's different. When you come rollin' into the local hangout w/ a thumpin' motor, and that signature "wine" your bound to get someone askin' "whatcha runnin?"

I ran a Pete Jackson on a 71 El Camino & never had a problem. When you are crusing at freeway speeds you don't hear the whine.It also saved me the cost of a stereo system cause I would rather hear the gear whine

I have the Pete Jackson in my Motor.. The whine is a little too much for me.. I will also be taking mine out some time in the near future.. I should have bought the Quiet one..

They run them in Stock cars, and I've never known one to chew a motor up!

Chewing up the engine is and old wives tale... they are more accurate in terms of timming plus they sound awesome. They are also really easy to install as well.

I've run one in my big block. Did no harm to the block, just use the bearing. I got tired of the sound too. Also I didn't like the harmonics of the engine. Put in a good dual roller and the engine smoothed out. A lot easier to hear the engine to tune. If you want one go for it, it won't hurt your block.
