Heard a new one
Have any of you guys ever met one of those guys who had that rare truck that there wasn't many made or had all the rare options? I met one the over the weekend.
My truck is a 68. The VIN code says it's a 68. It has 68 fenders, grill, and hood. I was sitting in my truck the other day when this guy walks up and asks if it's a 68 or a 69. I said "A 68". He said he had a 69 that looked just like mine. It had the 68 grill, hood, and fenders. He then told me that some early 69's were available with the 68 front clip. My first thought was it had been converted as some people prefer the 68 front clip. This was a new one to me. My question is, has anyone else heard this one or know if it's true or did this dude have a Heinz 57 variety PU? Personally, I think it's

It isn't too terribly uncommon. For example, some of the late 79 trucks had the 80 front end, along with some of the early 80 trucks having the late 79 clip etc.
I wouldn't be surprised if he was telling the truth

I had a 1972 cheyenne 2wd stepside that had a smallblock 400. It was even listed on the glovebox tag as an option. This engine did not come in trucks until 1973. Some people will argue with me but I know that I saw it with my own two eyes.

My 71 Chevy says 396 in the glove box, 402 on the engine tag and 400 on the side markers. I was a kid when I bought the thing (I won't admit to how many years now) and was confused as he!!. Only thing consistent is they're not.

My dad had a friend for many years who drove a 72 model truck, but it was made in 73 and had a 73 VIN.

went and looked at a truck one day that the owner said was a 69. When I got there it was a 68. He said the title claimed it as a 69 and the paint was really old so I assumed it was a early year wreck and replaced with 68 stuff. Maybe the guy was right after all . The paint sure looked original.

I have a 70 K20, with disk brakes. All the components such as brake lines and fittings appear original. The frame VIN matches. I thought maybe it was built late in that year. Anyone ever run across this?
