I would load it up and take it to the scrap yerd. Hell if you only get $30 for it all it's $30 bucks more than you had.

I would too! with steel prices these days I'm sure you'd get more than that, I scrapped a couple of trucks a couple of years ago, just axles, cab and frame and I got something like $40 for each, not bad for a few hours worth of my time.

Last time I went to scrapyard it was going for 42.00 a ton. Made a quick 100.00 that day.

Scrap prices have nose dived in the past few weeks, I took a load in last week...had 2400 pounds and came out with 70 bucks or so IIRC.
None the less... it is free cash and an easy way to dispose of the stuff that your local collection servises wouldn't normally pick up.
Call your localk junk yards. if non of them buy, then they could sure direct you.
If you have a bunch of alluminum and or brass/copper, do it quick. The prices for them will end up dropping pretty soon. They always follow steel prices.

The last time I took scrap to the yard, I didn't get any money for it. It was almost two whole truck frames, a rotted door, two rotted gmc fenders, and the grille. I could've probably got some money for it, but I would have had to drive about 45 miles to the recycling center. All that would've got me was gas money to drive back!

I've noticed it has dropped recently too, anyone in the biz know what's causing this ????

I know China hasn't stopped hoarding the world's supply, I expected the price to stay high for a while on recycled steel ?

I brought in 1800 pounds of aluminum last month (it has to be real clean, NO staples/nails etc... in it) got a little over $600. Cast iron and aluminum bring in a lot more money than what they pay for just "scrap metal" Round here Scrap is around 35-40 bucks per ton. Aluminum was .35 per pound, and Cast iron WAS up to 55 per ton. THey change daily though. Look in your phone book under yellow pages and look up scrap yards. Give them all a call and see what they pay, they don't mind this, they get people calling all day long asking what their price is. Longhornman may be right though, prices may have gone to crap.....

Like longhorn man said, prices have fallen drastically. Those are when I called a couple months ago! Might be worth it to hold on to it a while longer till the price goes back up (that's what my grandpappy does)

Last year the price sky rocketed becouse the Chineese were buying up all the iron ore, and we were pretty much left with the crap and recycled metals.
They may be done with what ever it was they were doing.

I'm only getting 40 a ton down here in Tacoma, I've heard they are paying a bit more in the Seattle area. It's worth a call or two, one big load can fill your gas tank and thats about it.
