i need help with gear ratio - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

i need to know how to figure out how to checvk what gears i have.i used to know,but i cant remember,is it that you count the tuns of the drums to the turns of the shaft,is it 4 tuns of the shaft to check how many turns your drum goes,im not sure,please help me...mike

If you have open diffs, for the rear jack up one tire rotate the tire twice, and count the total revolutions of the shaft just under 4 = 3.73, just over 4= 4.10, about 4.5=4.56 etc...
For the front lock one hub and leave tc in 2hi or neutral do above.
For locker/limited slips you will probably have to lift both rear tires and only turn tire once vice twice.

I kept the drivetrain. Body/bad and chassis are gone. 1981 K30, 350/465/205 dana 60 and dually 14 bolt. Has a G80, and a flat bed. Going to replace the flat bed. 1985 K20, 350/400/208 10 bolt and SF 14 bolt. I wonder where I can find some 1 tons. Hmmmmm
