front and rear differential questions

on a 68 3/4 ton 4x4 if you want to go to front disks what year 3/4 ton 4x4 front end would be a bolt in? and would the lug pattern be the same? also does the front and rear have to have same gear ratio...like both 4:11's etc.? seems like this would be a simple swap...maybe?

Any front from 71 and up will bolt in. You'll need to replace brake lines from the frame to the caliper. Lug pattern the same, 8 on 6.5". You want them as close as possible i.e 4.09s and 4.10s or 4.56s and 4.57s, not 4.10 and 4.56s something will break.

For 1/2 and 3/4 ton stuff $100-400 depending on condition etc... 1 ton (dana60) $800 and up.

I bolted in a Dana 44HD in my 62 burban and besides brake lines the only thing that was different was the axle shock tabs. The original 62 tabs had a different angle to them. Now that I think about it, the spring plates were different on one side. For the most part it's bolt in, not major fabbing needed. Any axle up to 1991 will bolt in. For a Dana axle, 77 and older in the 1/2 and 3/4 tons, 77 thru 91 for a Dana 60, but watch the price. I've sold 5 or 6 Dana 60s, the cheapest being $500 and the most for $1100.
