tranny still puking?

I checked the level and it was low so I added fluid and it proceeded to puke it back out. I will attempt to do a filter change this weekend and see if that does it? could it be anything else? like a stuck check ball or something. I'm not sure how long this truck sat up...

Are you checking the fluid while it is warmed up and running? Another thing that alot of people are unaware of, is you should go through all the gears, pausing in each selection, before checking the level, this fills the entire falve body and all its passeges with fluid so you can get an acurate reading.

If you had a stuck valve body you'd know it. You'd have a rough time shifting and getting it into gear smoothly. Do what Andy suggested, and maybe even drive around for 5 minutes or so. That really gets the fluid level evenly distributed.

I'd also try checking the downshift on higher acceleration. See if those servos are actuating correctly. If it shifts ok, you don't have any major leaks anywere (besides out of the dipstick hole) then I'd say you're either not reading the level correctly or your starting to get coolant into your transmission

That would be bad. If that's happening the fluid will start looking ugly, like a frothy texture or solid pink like pepto bismol insted of clear. Check your radiator to see if there's red stuff floating in it. That'll be a coolant line leak.

I'm not trying to scare you, but I remember having oil puke out of a dipstick tube once because the engine split along a cooling jacket and filled the engine with coolant. It hadn't mixed yet, so oil was being thrown up the dipstick tube and the breather. I drained over 3 pans of oil/coolant mix before it was empty. Of course my radiator was empty too, but...

Just some thoughts.

here's an interesting developement

I noticed that my temp guage wasn't working so I picked up a new sender today and that sucker is getting super hot. and the radiator is stone cold. I guess I have a stuck thermostat to boot. The coolant looks like straight antifreeze and is nice and green. the puked fluid looks just like ATF no coolant in it. it shifts fine and it does kick down. I have been checking the fluid after driving it and it doesn't register on the dipstick. if I add any it pukes out.

Hey guys, I can't remember, is there supposed to be a vent line on a TurboHydramatic? If there is, it may be blocked.

There is a vent tube on top of the trans. If the fluid goes in slow when you are adding it is a good bet that this tube is blocked. Take a piece of wire (or air hose if you can reach it) and try to push it thru. Probaly a dirt dauber nest inside. Good luck.

Does the fluid burp and fart and spray all over the place when you pour it in?

fluid goes in fine and does not gurgle or burp. I haven't looked for a vent on it

a friend brought the wrong dipstick thing up on the phone this evening. How do I find out what the correct one looks like? or can someone give me a length it should be?

@$%#!

well I called a tranny guy. I asked him what would cause this to happen...fluid to puke out of the dipstick when driving...and I quote "Has the truck sat up for a long time?" yes for three or so years..."9 times out of 10 it'll be a plugged vent tube"... " a dirt dobber probably built a nest over it" Kind of ironic I think... He told me where to look ... I'll investigate this evening... Thanks for everyone's input on this perplexing ordeal.

HA HA

well I found the vent tube... and yes it was plugged up by dirt or something I took a solid wire and cleaned it out. I then went to crank it up to run it around the block.... My new battery is dead, has 8 frickin volts.... won't even run the windshield wipers.. I think I know what is guilty of that... the AM radio... I put a fuse in the panel to see if it worked... I guess it worked at something..

some guys have all the luck

glad I have more than one ride.....

and she pukes no more.....!!!!

Well the vent tube cleaning seems to have been it. I need to find out why my battery went down overnight for sure. I swapped the 71's into it and she cranked right up. I pulled the radio fuse back out. I really think that radio was in the on position... and works without the key in the ignition. I don't hear anything? maybe it works but the speaker doesn't....

Thanks to everyone who gave input on this I really appreciate it.
