New Project 71 SWB
I bought couple trucks for $1500, both run & drive but im making 1 truck out of the two. both have the 350/350 combo. but the cab & Interior in the orange truck is awesome. the purple cab is shot, not to mention the front/drivers fender was smashed.

I plan on swapping the swb to 5lug disc fronts & 5lug axle from the long bed. and when I do that im gonna put new ball joints in the control arms.
any suggestions on the fronts? will the spindles fit the stock drum control arms?

what i did on mine was swap the whole front xmember, it was the easiest way. there were 6 bolts on each side of the frame, 3 were to the member and 3 were to the upper arm. then i had to pop the pitman arm off the steering box with a pickle fork, remove the brake lines, and that was about it as far as i can remember.
EDIT you have to remove the steering arm rod <-- i guess that's what it's called from the pass side frame, it has 2 bolts. it is really an easy swap though.

ok that does sound pretty easy. I might do that before I go replacing parts in the front ends. SO does the crossmember hold the coil springs & everything? just move it over and bolt it on?

Your purple cab is actually rustier than mine... that's an acomplishment (of some sort) ...
Good score on the trucks! (Those brackets were probably for a plow or some other silly horse pucky.)

now im not so sure that the short bed is a 350engine. I wrote down the casting number last night and it doesn't exist. so I need to check it again. the number I wrote down ended w/ a "44" and that could either be a 283 or a 327. I guess Ill have to get out a wire brush and clean it up a bit. (guy I bought it from said it was a 350)

283's and 327's are good engines. if it runs good keep it in there. i'd take one of them just as fast as a 350.
