tail lights
i've been having problems with my lights in the rear of the truck(tail, brake, turn, reverse, and license plate). it has four wires running to the back of the truck they are spliced about five times, have dead ends, and are very brittle. so i went out and bought some heavy duty trailer wiring to replace the old. i normally have a pretty good grasp on wiring and how it works, but i have never done this before and i need to know what each wire does, where to slice it, which wires to split, and if the ground is seperate and to the bodyor frame. any diagrams or discusion will be greatly appreciated. thanks ahead of time.

I JUST REPLACED THAT HARNESS. I GOT ONE FROM THE TRUCK SHOP IN ORANGE CA. IT WAS $37, & PLUGGED RIGHT IN. THERE # IS 1-800-243-8947. I'M SURE SOME OF THE VENDORS ON THIS BOARD CAN HELP YOU TOO.

For $37 you would be way ahead to redo it properly.
I will be the first to admit that I will crawl under and splice a wire, but if they are as bad as you say, you need to replace the harness. my $.02 |

if you already spent the money on new wires, i'd string the new harness next to the old one, cut each wire one at a time and splice as i go, do the back first, then write down what wire splice into what, if the colors are different, then either cut them ahead or behind the connector at the firewall, depending on how bad the old wires were and hope it all works well.
