tire carrier,rear suburban?
Hello,
I am from western northern Michigan on the 45th parallel. I am working on a 1991 Suburban. Lots of projects. I am trying to find information (pictures) of a rear mounted tire carrier with the barn doors. I want to mount the carrier to the hings that are allready in place. Has anyone tried this. If not a good idea why not? Tire size is 35 x 12.5 x 16" I know it will be pretty heavy but I think the factor hings should hold the tire. Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks: Mixednuts |

as an owner of a 91 with barn doors, I like having it just inside... and seeing how these hinges are setup I wouldn't trust them personally, not for that kind of weight.

if it is off a blazer with tailgate style then it should work with a reinforced mount but on barn doors with the weight of the door as well as the mount/tire, thats what I wouldn't trust.

more ideas
I realize that the assembly would be hanging on the two hinges but also
think the latch system could be designed to carry close to 1/2 of the weight of the tire and carrier assembly.By splitting up the weight in this manner I figured I could make it work. I have wacked on those hinges on occasion and figured they were pretty strong. Comments...... Thanks.. mixednuts. |
