Re: 1969 vs 1970 c10
the plastic grill insert is different in the two years. The vinyl door panels on the 69 only had a bowtie on them.It was in the upper middle of the panel.Hope this helps

Re: 1969 vs 1970 c10
Some didn't come with the bow tie in the door panel, I think it was early model 69 did, late model 69 didn't. Or Vice-Versa.
Either way, 70 had wood paneling at the top of the door panel. There were a few other odd differences... if there is no inside mirror, and no holes for on... it'd be a 69 since it was standard first in 70.... ect. But the grill insert is the only thing you'd see from outside... and that is not a sure thing since they stopped making the 70 grill deckades ago and the 69 has been the official replacement part...even though it is not right. |

Both my 69 and 70 have the same type of inside mirror, just a different cover.

Re: 1969 vs 1970 c10
Here are some images from an old Golden State catalog I have. The first grille is a 1969, and the second is a 1970.

Re: 1969 vs 1970 c10
I think the painted and chrome headlight surrounds had to do with if it was a base model or higher like cst.

Re: 1969 vs 1970 c10
The headlight doors are black painted steel on both years, not supplied through repro.I`ve seen the opposite in repro grilles,70s being the only one available.I`ve seen alot of trucks for sale that are`69s w/`70 grilles, too.

Re: 1969 vs 1970 c10
Also I think 69's only had reflector side markers and 70's had the lighted one. Thats what I heared and the back ones I got off a 69 were just reflectors.

Re: 1969 vs 1970 c10
I bought a '69... All side markers were NOT powered... reflectors only.
As far as the Grille goes, I have to agree with PJ. Hope it helps. |

Re: 1969 vs 1970 c10
I asked this same question when I first got my 70 last year and the above catalog picture helps me even more, I couldn't tell the difference btwn 69 and 70 grilles, but it's very apparent above.

After over 40 years, lots of swapping have been done on these trucks. Once you recognize the differences -some minor -you find out how much this has happened. I see a lot of trucks advertised as 68 with 69 or later front clips and vice versa.

Re: 1969 vs 1970 c10
The 70 grill insert is essentially a 69 grill, painted differently to give the appearance of lines. Theres another thread about this. I've seen one at the junk yard up close, and sure enough it's just painted to resemble vertical lines.

Re: 1969 vs 1970 c10
I was going to start a thread because I don't know 69-70s very well..............Good information here. At least I can differentiate grilles now
I can add something about a 70 C-10, from my 71 C-10 edgeucation. Some had the same EEC system as a 71. It was a California requirement, maybe more................................ Both the 70 C-10 with EEC and all 71 C-10 used the same gas cap for the cab tank. Without verifying, my guess is they used the same parts from the gas cap to the vapor canister. I can also say the 72 had a different system. They added a return line (sender/pump), it takes a different cap, and I think it uses a different tank. Correct me if I'm wrong, but 69 & prior did not have EEC. Edit: Anyone know the paint/body trim variances for 69-70? Seems one or both had an additional option over 71-72. Same schemes as 71-72, but an additional option for the secondary color under the lower belt. Like this: https://ccpublic.blob.core.windows.n...10-thumb-c.jpg
