Trazer on the cheap?
I'm gonna buy a 72 4x blazer Monday, the body is trashed. I happen to have an extra truck cab laying around...so you can see where this is going. Are there any issues with mounting a truck cab on the blazer frame? Any advice would be appreciated.

Re: Trazer on the cheap?
Other than the fact that a Blazer is a beautiful thing and a Trazer is, well... I guess if the body is rusted, do what you have to do.
Sorry, no real advice. I'd think you are going to have to fab some body mounts. Are you going with a shortend PU bed or something else?

Re: Trazer on the cheap?
I'm thinking of making a flatbed for it. Trust me the body is trashed on this thing, and I am not picky at all about looks. The driver door only has one hinge holding it on. I have a truck I can steal the cab mounts from. For $400 I'm getting a 4x auto blazer minus the v-8 motor and plus a lot of rust. The buckets look pretty good and it has an auto/tilt column in decent shape. The seal between the tranny and the xfer case needs to be replaced. Do you think it's worth it? The top is a double wall top in fair shape.

Re: Trazer on the cheap?
You should be able to just about recoupe your $ by selling the seats and tilt. If there are other salvageable parts, like the carpet strips, rear side panel brakets, etc, you'll probably end up ahead.
I think a flatbed would be cool. Kind of like Yukon's truck, but shorter! I say go for it - make a Frankenzer!

Re: Trazer on the cheap?
Here's the rusty hulk coming home. Had to swap my rear tires with the front tires to get it on the dolly. Really wide rims on that joker.

Cool. It (almost) looks like the PO tried to duplicate the feathers paint scheme. LOL Either that or they had some unruly children. LOL

Re: Trazer on the cheap?
Only thing I can figure is they were kickin' cow turds and eating the little mushrooms that grow under them when they painted it.
I figure I pull the top off and most of the body will just hit the ground.

Re: Trazer on the cheap?
Considering you just got yourself another Dana 44, NP465 if its a 4 spd., 12 bolt and a cap you can sell etc, Id say you got a hell of a deal. If the windshied frame is good, thats another hot item these days.
As a matter of fact, Ive got a rotted out 72, and Im doing the exact same thing if I ever find a cab decent enough to use. The day I sell my cap, its going in the garage for a body removal, and then Ill start on the frame. Id be interested in hearing what you learn about mounts etc along the way.

Re: Trazer on the cheap?
Nice score! FYI, the '72s all had NP205.
Is it legal to run without fenders down there?

Re: Trazer on the cheap?
Heck I was running it with no bed at all, had the taillights c-clamped to the bumper, I even got an inspection sticker like that.

Re: Trazer on the cheap?
Looks like its worth at least $400 to me. The rear support for the cab will have to be changed from a blazer style to to a truck style to use the cab I believe. If you can get away with trucks in that shape getting inspected..your not far away from road hammer time.

Re: Trazer on the cheap?
Yeah it ain't much of an inspection. Supposed to check lights and brakes but not much else.

Re: Trazer on the cheap?
Hey I wished I lived closer, I'd love to buy the top from you for my 71K5 project but shipping would kill me. That's one heck of deal for only $400. I've seen the tilt columns on e-bay go for a few hundred. Good luck.

Re: Trazer on the cheap?
Thanks, good luck on finding a top. I gave one away not too long ago to board member Wornbrakes. It was only in fair shape and it was given to me by another board member Ken Betz. That's why I love this place.

Wonder what the fenders on the back came from?
