More 73-87 C10 Drop Question
Yes it's me again back with more questions. Sorry guys I am all ready to buy my parts now and I have some conserns.
1) DJM lists the Axle Flip Kit as a 5" drop. My reading here if memory serves claims 4"? I am sitting level now thanks to the DJM 2" Shackles and I want to keep it level. What will I need to do up front to match the Flip Kit? I see 3" as the most extreme Spindles. 2) I am afraid that 5" all around may just kill my normal truck duties. I still need it to haul my motorcycle in it and odd jobs. Will I be scraping the spare tire in the ground over bumps if I do this? It is 2" lower than stock already in the rear. It does have the towing package so it may be stiff enough in the rear??? 3) Can I get someone to post picks of their frame-C to reference? I saw Ken had some really good ones posted a while back but I can't find them anymore. Any help is greatly appreciated, incase it helps to see how the truck sits now I will attach a few pics since I threw the shackles on it. Thanks again guys!

put stock shackles back on, and put your flip kit on it, it will come close to the frame with just the flip kit, you will have to cut off your bump stops. with the shackles it may just ride on the frame. as far as front, go with 3" spindles and then if thats not low enough put a 1 or 2" drop coil on it.

Thanks guys, I think 3" sounds safer, I was hoping for a little lower but I can play with it once I get that far. I appreciate your time and expertise, I am going to buy a little at a time so the wife doesn't leave me.

A shackle & a front hanger should be a 4" drop, & shouldnt need a c notch. if you go with a 2 1/2" spindle up front, you should still have a pretty level stance.....& a truck that is still useable as a hauler L

Thanks Longhorn, I have never seen Front Hangers listed anywhere, where can I get them? That sounds like a good way to go.
Chris, I am sorry I forgot to address the wheel question. I do plan to run my stock ralleys. I have read on the board that you can finess the spindles with just a little groove with a grinder to make it function. I am hoping this will work because I really want to keep the truck looking stock with the exception of ride height. Have you heard of this before?

You can go 4" front 6" rear without losing much function. I mean as far as a dirt bike or something like that. You will need to c-notch the rear frame rail. I had a 79 blazer with this drop and drove it everyday. Never had a problem with bottoming out on anything.

Hi
this is what my BellTech Flipkit looks like on the bare frame and the front is lowered with spindles and springs also from BellTech. The stance looks good and the ground clearance is ok but the stock leafsprings are very stiff so i think i donīt have to notch the frame. I shortened the bumpstops. Maybe there is a difference between a longbed and a shortbed. The lower a-arms had to be grinded off otherwise the 15 inchers wonīt fit! |
