Clutch fork installation

I just rebuilt my Saginaw 3speed (behind a 250 in a '72 C-10 longbed, if that matters). While tearing it down, I discovered that the little clip that holds the clutch fork on its ball was broken. I ordered a replacement from LMC (gotta love $8 shipping for a $2 part). When I went to install the clutch fork, I broke the replacement, in exactly the same place.

So, I'm sure I'm putting it on wrong. Just how are these supposed to go together?

I've got an extra clutch fork with the clip in it you can have for the cost of shippin plus $2. I am not going to use it.

When I took apart my tranny i noticed my clip was busted too, you can usually pick these up at the parts counter of any GM dealership, just bring in the fork, and the clip. The way you install it is you put the clip into the fork and then just press it on the ball until you hear a click. You probably didn't do anything wrong it was just a bad clip, call LMC and tell them it was defective, and they had better send you a new one free of charge. I mean if you can't install the part without it breaking, how and the hell is it supposed to stand up to use?

Hmm, that's what I thought.

Just how much effort is it supposed to take to snap it in?

And the clip was not flat. Should it curve upward or downward? Should all three points be inside the groove?

Is it just me or do these clips look like frogs?

Ribbit, Ribbit! And yes all three points should be in the groove, somewhat like the clips that hold U-joints in. And to be honest I don't know if the clip has a required orientation, I really don't think it matters...
