Question 305 mated to 700R?

I have a 86 C10 with a good 305 and I have a rebuilt 86 Camaro 700R with convertor. Will they mate up or do I need to be aware of any mods? I am thinking of putting these in my 80 Blazer, my 350 is tired and leaks oil.

Thanks for the help?

Doug

Re: 305 to 700R?

Should bolt straight up so long as that was a V8 / 4.3 Camaro tranny, and not a 45 degree bellhousing V6 (less 4.3) transmission.

You'll need to get the lockup stuff from a 700r4 equipped truck, you'll need to put a bracket for the TV cable on your carb from the same 700r4 equipped truck and you'll need to move the tranny mount back a touch. Optional is for you to change your steering column out to a 700r4 column so you can get it all the way down to 1st, and maybe change the dash gear indicator to show that you have OD. I personally just left my column / indicator alone. My truck shows its in D when its in OD, L2 when I'm in D and L1 when I'm in 2nd. I'll never take it down into first, so who cares

No idea what your situation looks like as far as driveshafts go, but if your truck had a TH350, chances are it'll bolt right up.

Overall, pretty easy swap. I had no trouble installing the 700r4 into my 77, less getting the wrong transmission pan gasket + filter twice in a row, lol (you need to drop the pan + filter to check and possibly change some wiring on the valve body for the lockup)

Re: 305 to 700R?

There is some good info on 73-87.com, written by swervin, on getting it set up.

Re: 305 to 700R?

Thanks guys.

It was a 350 camaro. I have the tv cable on the trans. I have the OD indicator from another truck. I also just bought a 1990 tilt/cruise/pulse column to go in. I have a 350/350TH in it now. I don't mind cutting the shaft and getting it spliced and balanced if I need to. I think once it is all in I will trailer it to the trans shop to get set right. Don't want to blow it after all the work.
