4wd converted to 2wd ???

I never thought I would even consider it, but, there is (from what I can see) a nice converted 2wd blazer for sale. I dont know much about it, so I figured I would look through a few pages of posts, and couldnt find any posts about it.

Pros, cons....if anyone has done it? I was looking at Rok's rear suspension for sale, but, again, I dont know much about it. Cutting? Welding? What gets done. Can you turn a factory 4wd into a 2wd using 2wd parts?

If I dont buy it, I have a friend that doesnt want to pay the steap price for a factory 2wd, and was looking at converting...so even if I decide to pass, this could help him out quite a bit too...

Honestly, if you are going to customize it, I see no problem with a converted truck. Once you've added airbags, etc, it isn't original anyway, so why not save some $ and go for it.

I'm the friend! One questions he forgot to ask for me was about the front suspension. What would need to be done to the front suspension?

As for the front suspension, seems like finding a 2wd truck for donor parts would/could work for both front and suspension rear parts/pieces.

One quick and cheap way to go is find a 2wd long or short bed frame and cut it down and mount the blazer body. The rear section is a bit different between the 2 and 4 wds. 4wd frame is strait above the rear axel and a 2wd has a slight curve at the axel location. The front 2wd suspention will work you just need to drill a bunch of holes and it will bolt right on up. I would do this conversion in a heart beat! I was looking for a 4wd to do this to when a 2wd jumped infront of me instead. The 2wd coil spring 1/2ton rear suspention is all the same for blazers, short beds as well as long beds. Same axel, trailiing arms and cross member. The 3/4 tons are also the same but have beefed up trailing arm's.

Easiest way is to keep the leaf springs in the rear and swap in only the front cross member. I've seen a few done this way, I think Livrat has done some both ways...

Yes.. have a done few of the conversions..
For me the easiest way was to drill the holes for the 2WD front crossmember and for the trans cross member.. then just keep the leaf springs on the rear and put the axle on top of the springs. I did one with the coil spring setup .. way more work.. then I would do as Kevin suggested.. get a 2WD long box frame and shorten it and change the body mounts.

Kevin... kind of a coincidence.. I too was looking for a 4X4 and a real 71 2wd showed up, But have pondered selling it to buy one to convert to the way I want it..
