how do you get new parts past the wife?
I'm sure you all have tryed the "Those have always been on the rig" trick, or "I bought those a long time ago, i just got around to installing them". Maybe the "they were so cheap im just gonna resell them and make a profit".
I pretty much quit using these lines because it just makes me look stupid when i know she knows im full of $h*t. Now i just put the new toy on the rig and hope she doesn't notice and if she does i just tell her the truth. Dont get me wrong i can do what ever i want....................as long as she says it ok.

Right there with ya buddy...sort of. The key is the seperate account. I have a business account I buy my stuff out of. That way before I ever deposit into our joint account it's already spent I fish a lot. I once saw a signature on a fishing forum that read: "I dread the thought that when I'm dead my wife will sell all my used fishing gear for the prices I told her I paid for them." It's the old "no honey that exhaust was on sale for $35" sure...when your dead and you never installed it suddenly someone offers her $200 bucks on ebay. When your dead is when she will find out the truth.

Re: how do you get new parts past the wife?
Good thing i'm not married and wasnt when i had this done. I don't think i'd have been able to float any excuse for what's making it look different.. , maybe "oh yea, it's out of gas, you have no idea how much that stuff weighs" Or possibly, "i changed to a smaller tire and rim size, yes, that i got for free"
(ugh my trucks "Bad" side, believe it or not the only rust on the side is a quarter size hole on the front of the rocker right under the bottom, front, pass. door. The spot behind the door on the tub was fixed the right way [rust cust out, patched, sealed front and back]by yours truely a few years ago. The bottom ,front corner,of the door had some surface rust i took care of as well. Looks alot worse then it is believe it or not) Like i said, good thing i'm not married Last edited by Medicanman71; 04-21-2006 at 07:25 AM. |

Re: how do you get new parts past the wife?
I just stay single... That way parts only have to get past my wallet and there's no worries. (at least that's what I tell myself is the reason I'm still single)
I do have a mother that's always saying Code:
Why don't you get a new car, that way you wont' have to work on it all the time

Re: how do you get new parts past the wife?
ok....just making sure others have to go what i go through....My rig has a 4" lift kit with 2" blocks up front. I had to spend 3 bills to get new front 6" arched springs. She will never notice them in the truck but I'm sure she's gonna ask why I'm pulling the front of the truck apart to put in my new tranny that i just got yesturday.
I'm getting alot of heat, did a crate motor last month, doing the tranny as we speak, and this is all stuff i wasn't expecting to do. I still need to get the items that i was expecting to do. I dunno......I just want my rig the way i want my rig and it costs money and she doesn't understand that boys and their toys cannot be messed with.

Re: how do you get new parts past the wife?
I have the parts sent to my work address. The only time I have a problem is when I use paypal and they will only ship to a confirmed address. I still have about half the stuff shipped to the house so she won't suspect anything.

Re: how do you get new parts past the wife?
I just tell my wife that it is cheap advertizement. People come to my shop and see the cowl hood and like it, wa-la... I sold a cowl hood. Ash tray Cup Holder... Same deal.. lol She is always asking me what I am going to put on one of my trucks next... lol The thing that she is starting to get concerned about is the number of trucks that I have.... But then I sell a couple and that fear goes back to the back burner.. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Re: how do you get new parts past the wife?
She has a hobby too. So when she asks for something or even says I could use that, it shows up in the mail. So when I hook up to the trailer and bring home a couple trucks on a saturday she dosen't say a word. She makes jokes about how many vehicles I have owned in the 6 years we've been together.

Re: how do you get new parts past the wife?
Heres a good story of how a guy I know shut his wife up.......... He enjoys fishing. He returned home from a Friday of fishing, boat still hooked to the truck and she says you know maybe you should quit fishing for awhile. He turned around got in the truck and went fishing for the weekend. Returned after dark on Sunday and she has never suggested he quit fishing again.

Re: how do you get new parts past the wife?
I hardly ever spend money out of the "House" account" odd jobs, side jobs and trading usually buy my parts. The only time she really hurt me was when I brought my 72 K2500 home. I had worked hard to sell stuff to be able to buy it and not use "our" money and when I brought it to the house to move some stuff she came out and said "Who'd you borrow that hunk of junk from", I was truly hurt. After stifling a sniffle I just said no one it's ours. She really does like riding in it now.

Re: how do you get new parts past the wife?
My wife has given up hope - she was trying to get me to sell the Blazer for some time - and I think has finally given up.
I just bring parts home when she's not home - and get them in the garage and stash them - wife stays out of the garage for the most part. She's happy being in the dark - just have to not make the cash outlay show up in the bank account... So I use my side plastic chroming business as much as possible to pay for stuff

Re: how do you get new parts past the wife?
I installed a new headliner in my truck 2 weeks ago and she has yet to notice. It went from saddle to black. I just bought another truck which makes 4 so maybe she thinks I'm just swapping parts between them. Thats a good way to confuse her and agree with her and say "Yes honey, that did come out of the other truck."

Re: how do you get new parts past the wife?
I guess i'm a good con artist when it comes to getting another truck but shes had enough of it. Two of them are getting parked at my moms house with "For Sale" signs on them. I get to keep a daily driver and my project truck.
