frame problem
i need help figuring out the best method to fix my frame without having to buy another frame. the drivers side is pretty thrashed and i want to just replace this side. any help is appreciated. here are some pics http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=197408

I don't know anyone that will split a frame and sell you half. From experience it is much easier to replace the whole frame that one rail. Unless you have the jigs and welding equipment it will be a nightmare waiting to happen.
With that said you might get away with clipping it and it may cost $200 for a complete clip. Weld it on and plate it and your done. Well there is a little more to it than that but it’s still easier than one rail. |

Yes, it should work fine. 73 - 87 are the same with minor differences. You could lop of the front end on both and use the 86. Box the rails 12 inches on each side of the seam. Make sure you have a good welder do it so it doesn't crack in half on the hiway.
Don't do a straight down cut do a sideways V cut so you have that much more weld area. Cut down about 1.5 - 2" then cut a sideways V and down 2" or so to the bottom. Top and bottom of the rail straight across cuts. One thing to look out for is to cut in the same spot on each frame. You don't want to come up short on the 86 clip. If its long you can trim it back |

I have just finished cutting up a 87 1/2 LWB frame. I have that side cut to just to the front of the trans crossmember. I have to check that when I cut the rivets for the front crossmember did I cut the frame.
Let me know, PM me, If your are interested in that part of the frame. You would have to splice the frame rail, and bolt the front crossmember and engine cradle in. thanks, Steve |

that might be an option as well just replace that section from the cab forward. Still much easier than a rail and easier than a clip.

I checked , the frame is fine , complete from the front to just infront of the trans crossmember, drivers side

is your truck a short bed or long bed? i have a longbed frame you can have for a twelver. you're in northridge california right?
