GMC Vin number decode
This is my first post but been lurking here for a while and got a lot of great info. I just bought a GMC 3/4 ton with vin # CM2590DZC2392B I know this is a 1967 because it has the small rear window, but the title says its a 1969. I am guessing somewhere along the line someone just made a mistake typing up the title. I havent got it changed to my name yet and wonder what kind of trouble this will be. Looking at others that have been decoded here I believe its shows a long bed 3/4 ton 1967 but dont know what the M is as far as engine or the Z for plant. Thanks for info.

Re: GMC Vin number decode
It's quite possible someone swapped cabs in it's life and they took the vin from the frame and not the cab. The fifth digit in your vin tells the year, so I would say your title is correct, just the cab was swapped out. The second digit is the engine and I am pretty sure the M is for V6.

Re: GMC Vin number decode
You guys are using chevy decoders.
I don't know the GMC decoders...only 69, however, Rod, teh master of GMC VIN decoding has 2 67 GMCs decoded just a couple posts down from this, and it sheds a LOT of light on this. Quote:
So, you take ROD's info, and the VIN at hand here (CM2590DZC2392B ) and we get; C=conventional cab (2 wheel drive) M=v-6 (305 onles otherwise optioned...and was avalible in 1500 - 3500 trucks untill at least 69, maybe later) 2=3/4 ton 59= cab to rear axle dimention. 54 inches if not mistaken 0D= fleet side, or wide side in GMC talk z= assembly plant Freemont Cali c=1967 2392 sequence number for that plant in that model year B GVW rangeof 6001 to ? |

Re: GMC Vin number decode
Thanks Longhorn, thats what I was thinking for year even though title says 1969. It now has an inline 6 and a power glide trans that PO said was from a Nova. That will change sometime. It was a Custom and had factory air but is missing most of it. Body is pretty good but will need rockers. Bed is real good other than a hole in each side thats must have been side tanks at one time but are gone now even though there is a switch mounted on the floor by the drive seat to change tanks.

Re: GMC Vin number decode
has the wrong grill too.
Better make sure the VIN on the title matches the one on the truck. Ohio is funny about that. Speaking of which...where you located man? Welcome to the board, you'll get just about any info you'll need on here. |

Re: GMC Vin number decode
Yea I made sure they matched when I saw the title said 1969 and I know the body was a 1967. I thought about it a long time before I bought because of this but it was by far the best shape I could find for the $1200 I paid for it. I am in SE Ohio about 35 mile south of Zanesville. A few more pics of it before I bought it.

Re: GMC Vin number decode
So the VIN on the title says 67, but the typed out info says 69.
You may have problems with the BMV, they are real a holes about this kind of thing. They can fix it very easily, however, since they don't have the decode info, they'll be hesitant thinking you are trying to pull one over on them. Good luck. Please tell me it is an Ohio title when you got it. |

Re: GMC Vin number decode
yes it is an Ohio title. I thought about just going with what the title says but if I ever sell it could cause problems so would like to get it right from the start. I may ask about it at the court house when I get title changed since I know the girl there and if its a lot of trouble just leave it titled as a 69.

Re: GMC Vin number decode
Well you almost nailed all that one (VIN) now Longhorn Man
well this make 4000 posts. The last letter "B" is for GVW range 6001-10000. Hence B is for a 3/4 ton, makes sense now dont it. You got the 59 meaning 54 inches also. So the vin says its a 1967 3/4 ton GMC V6 Fleetside long box..and the pic shows it as correctly decoded by example truck displayed.

Re: GMC Vin number decode
Just an update. Got the title in my name as a 67. Printed out info on serial number decode and took with me and asked the girl I know if it was possible that it was typed wrong at some point and she said it was. I gave her the info from Longhorn Man and Rod and she said since I gave her my research she would change it and then work with the state on it. (Probably helps that she knows me also) So thanks to this site I now have it titled as a 67 like it should be. Thanks guys.
