1/2, 3/4, 1-ton...what are the differences?
Have a line on a 60-66 (not sure exactly what year) truck. Guy says it is 2 wheel drive, and has 8-lugs.
If it's an 8-lugger, is that a one ton truck? If so, is it just the axles that are different from a 1/2 ton, or is there more that would be different? Just trying to figure out if it's worth my while to look at. Thanks.

So then there is more that is different than just bigger axles and springs...?
I was thinking the frame would be the same...body too...just gotta swap out the axles for some 5 luggers (and appropriate springs) and be good to go. Anyone else?

www.earlyclassic.com sales a drop spindle that lets you use five lug disc brakes.you will have to swap the rear end.

Re: 1/2, 3/4, 1-ton...what are the differences?
Hello Drogster,
I have a 61 Gmc with the 8 lug wheels. It sits and acts like a 3/4 ton. My Vin says it is a 1500. I have read that some of the trucks came like that. There is a GMC 60-66 website I beleive that is where I got that from. Bottom line, I am happy with it and every one else seems to dig the 3/4 ton look. I am no expert but This is what I have. Respectfully Billy
