will a trans out of an 87 burb go in my 79 silverado need ur help thanks

You can make anything fit into anything with enough, time, knowledge, and money.
We need more details are they 2WD or 4WD? What tranny does each have? TH350, TH400, 700R4, Manual?? Give us as much detail as you can and we can help.

well i dont want to spend the money just want to get a trans in my truck need to kno if it will work

what trans is in it now, what trans are you putting in it? My guess is the 87 has a 700r4 in it and the 79 has a th350... most likely not direct bolt in.. someone will chime in that can answer this, but again we need to know what trans is in it and what you are wanting to put in it to be for sure. May involve different crossmember or crossmember modification, perhaps a different driveshaft..etc...

A 700R-4 will not bolt in the place of a TH350, I am not sure about a 400 though.

All three have different mounting lengths. They'll all bolt up to the engine no problem. The crossmember location is different, though.

There are 2 different TH350 lengths, so it may fit. Previous post is correct, whatcha got, whatcha putting in? I have done many swaps, if it is a 700r4 coming out, I would recomend putting one back in, but a long shaft TH350 would be cheaper. In Wasington they are around $150 at a junk yard, and 700r4's are 300 to 400 bucks.

Actually there are three ( http://www.tciauto.com/tech_info/trans_dims.htm ) but I think it should have the 9". Measure to make sure. Also the torque converter is different. If you have a Th350 with a 9" tail it will fit with the cross member being moved back and redrilled for the new mounting holes in the frame. Also you will need to wire in a lock up torque converter ( http://73-87.com/7387garage/drivetrain/lockup.htm ), add a cooler to keep the tranny cooler since it runs hotter than a Th350 ( http://73-87.com/7387garage/drivetrain/tranny_hoses.htm ), and get the right linkage and set it up correctly ( http://73-87.com/7387garage/drivetrain/tvcable.htm ). The links will help you if you decide to get it but like others mentioned it's usually cheaper to get the Th350 rebuilt rather than try a 700r4 and swap it out and hope that it's still good.
