a little knowledge is a dangerous thing for sure.

Not being "up" on the latest/greatest TPI stuff, I bought a package the was MAF and now I'm wondering (because I've learned more info) if speed density wouldn't be a better set up.

Any input about this?

I've always been told that if your engine is not stock (bigger cam, ported heads), MAF is a better was to go. MAP uses pre-programmed settings for a particular engine to control the fuel. MAF measures the amount of air coming into the engine to determine the correct fuel flow. These articles explain it better than I can.

About time you got around to it. I already PM'ed you with my opinions. The only issue that I can think of right know is that the Corvette fuel rails have the fuel line connections in the rear. That might make hooking up the fuel lines a bit tricky, but it's certainly doable. Also, check the fit of the distributor. I think the Corvettes had the "Big Cap" distributor while Camaros had the small cap with external coil. Good luck. Keep us up to date. You're gonna love it.

what are you using for the wiring harness? Have you finished with it?? What did you do for fuel pump.frame mount?Looks Great.

Progress has been slower than hoped...
The package wasn't exactly quite as ready to install or labeled as it was described by the seller, so I'm working through what's going to work and what's not.
Couple sensors were busted on the front of the manifold and parts of the intake plenum have been sawed off so figuring those thing's out has been time consuming too.

I decided to get a Painless harness to save time and energy.
Got the extra long version so it could go under my seat.

Going to use a frame mounted pump for now to save time but plan on either changing out the tank for a later model blazer tank that had E.F.I. or getting a pump that will fit into my current metal tank.

Couple pics of the not so great items...

Labeling is sparse and illegible.

Need to find out about the chopped off plenum parts...any ideas?
Why was this done?

Smashed sensors will need to be replaced as well.

Pretty nice!

I bought a Holley Commander 950 system for my Blazer. I went TBI just because I didn't have the extra cash for the TPI manifold, etc.

It will be interesting to hear about your success in getting the corvette tuning parameters to work in your engine. I decided to go with a kit because the fuel (and spark) parameters are extremely adjustable to account for specific engines -- you just hook your laptop up to it.

Man i hate the damage......im sure you know buy you can buy many parts reasonable priced on ebay...I have intentions of putting a 700r4 in my blazer and fuel injection of some kind. I have a tbi setup thats pretty complete but i really like the looks of tpi...im also curious about using a Holley Stealth Ram intake and all the tpi parts. I have been looking at the S&P tpi harness that would control torque convert lockup and would also allow me to use electronic cruise. All this will be done LATER but the good news is i finally got off my butt and started working on the buggy again. Plan is to finish and sell THEN i can work on the blazer.
Have you considered possibly returning the painless MAF harness and convert over to speed density.....which from what i have read is much more reliable..And are you really gonna mount the ECM on the floor?? When i had my 89k5 i was really glad the ECM was mounted up high under the dash.as the floorboards were covered in water more than once.
Good Luck..and dont give up.

It's a MAF system, way more adaptable than speed density.
I'll most likely burn another chip but I think it'll at least run as is for start up anyway.

Plans are for it to be water proof when finished, we'll see...
Couldn't find a decent place for it under the dash, used up the better part of a day trying.
Going to stay MAF, all the research I've done say's it's alot more forgiving when motor changes are made.
Better for low end torque and slower speeds too.

The part that was cut off is for a heater hose bypass that warms up the plenum. It's not needed, most guys don't hook it up, so I wouldn't worry about it.

You really did get screwed though on all the mashed sensors. BTW, that brass plug above the temp sensor is for your heater hose. If you want to use the heater you'll have to put a right angle fitting in there for it.

Interesting idea for the ECM so long as you waterproof it. I stuck mine in the glove compartment.

Okay, so under the seat location didn't work out so well...

Decided to dump the never used glove box and mount everything behind the door.

Seems alot easier for future access too.

I pulled it back off.

We had scheduled a wheeling trip to Paragon for the beginning of September and I wasn't willing to go down there with a TPI system that hadn't been properly set up, just not enough time.
So I did a couple mods to the old reliable Q-jet, turned out to run okay.

However, FI has never left my gray matter and I've been trying to figure out how/when it's going to happen.

So as of just the other day, I've finally have a plan.
I found a good deal on a running/driving 90 blazer that has an injected 383ci in it with serp belt system.
Installing injection and a serp belt set up are the last two "biggies" on my 'want it' list and this 90 blazer with get me there.

Additional parts from the blazer are a rebuilt 700r and a 241 that was done/installed at the same time, along with having all the rest of the running gear.

So that leaves me sitting with TWO TPI set ups that I'll be posting on the 'for-sale' board soon, ones from an '86 Vette and the other from an '87 IROC.

Getting a running parts truck will be alot easier. That way you can use everything. Use the fuel tank from the '90 as well, it will have the baffles in it. Putting a pump in your stock tank could starve the pump and ruin it. I had a '70 Jimmy with EFI and it had a non-baffled tank, if the tank was below 1/4 everytime you got on the brakes or accelerated hard, it would stall.

Yeah, I've noticed how different the body looks on your truck comprared to some older pix. I fear I'm heading that way too. Both rear quarters have "met earth" recenty. As for the FI, very cool. My rig has a complete Holley projection system in it that I have by-passed with a Q-Jet and stock fuel pump. The damn Q-Jet runs so good Im affraid to try and get the pro-jection working again. I have to say that VTBlazer has the coolest 4x4 Blazer on this site, no disrepect to any others...all 4x4 Blazers rock!

Kurt I wish I seen this earlier if you deside to try again and need any parts let me know I have like 10 tpi systems on a shelf colecting dust waiting for me to get built for all my USMC friends . every thing from stock to just plain crazy i use to make base plates for TPI to vortec heads until SDPC started to cast them and put me out a buisness I just couldnt make them as cheap as they could. if I were you I would look in to burning you own chipps it will only be like $100 to get you started and now that you are using a TBI it will even be cheaper you can down load the TBI software for free. I would not have used a mas air with an off road setup but thats me the sensor is to fragle and restricks you to I think 450 cfm of air not a lot if you have a hevy breather under the hood. their are a few cheap tricks you can do to help out with the stock system. if you want Ill snap a few pics of a ported plenum so you can see what one looks like. Im building a crazy TPI write now for my 68 bird Ill snapa few pics of it to im in the middle of porting and polishing all the parts write now. I love TPI it use to be the first thin I would add to my rides but now Im on a diesel kick.
