Talking I Had To Get 'em

i am on my way to work this morning driving my truck, and this youngster pulls up besides me(in his toyota celica) while we are rolling and just guns it and pulls away. i pay it no attention and keep on cruising. at the next red light he sits through a yellow to wait for me. so i roll up and come to a stop and i feel him staring at me so i look over and he points down the street indicating that he want's to race. i shake my head no, he shruggs his shoulders as if to say whats up are you scared? in my mind i thought, ok i am not just going to beat him, but i want to smoke this youngster in this celica. so i fliped the nitrous switch and i looked over and shook my head indicating i was ready. the light turned green i let him take off first(he got about a car length ahead) and then i nailed it. i shot by him so fast it seemed i was running by myself. after about 250 yards i let up and finished my cruise to work. i know one is suppose to race at the track, but this little punk had the stupidest smurk on his face and i felt i had to wipe it off for him, besides i was minding my own business as i was on my way to work.

Way to go! Best I can do is throw a chain on their bumper and take them for a drag. No racing in my slow beast.

ta hell with all the nay sayers mitch, it's good to clear your throat every once in a while. street racing will never die, rightfully so. anyway as you get older, your common sense in knowing when you should or should'nt do it gets better if you are responsible person (i think).

Talking

thanks for the feedback. i wanted to know what my fellow boardmembers thought. it is funny how alot of people think that our trucks are slow. sometime you just got to show'em different. like i said previously i would rather do it at the track here in indy, but sometimes you have to take care of it where you are if you can.

I HAD TO GET'EM

I smoked a Civic one time, and he caught up to me a the light and asked me to pull over so he could see what I had. He told me he was going to get his dad to buy him and old truck so he could go fast.

Good work, mah man.

I've gotta stay clean, though...I got out of one street racing ticket, but I sure as hell won't get out of another...and that first one was only to 50. Thank god the cop didn't see me running 80-90 with three imports that one night in a 45 for three miles, heh...

Way to go Man! I love those stories!! Here's one....Me and a friend of mine was stopped by a train one night. While sitting there waiting, a full dresser rice pos stopped beside us. I looked at his car and being polite, just nodded. He hollered, that old piece of sh!t move by it's self? Before I finished thinking about this situation, my friend yelled, you got any money punk? Well, it was on. The punks collected $100.00 between them. My friend pulls out a c note. They wanted to discuss this at the store. No prob. I wanna see under your hood old man. I don't want to see your rice. AND PULL YOUR DAMN PANTS UP! He asks, how you wanna run? I said.. bottom end, top end, middle end, it dont matter. He said 30 roll, LOL. I told him, when I see your bumper raise, I'll kick. He did and I did. I yanked 2nd. My friend hit me on the shoulder... it's over. He was 50 yards behind me. I stayed into it until his headlights were small dots. I stopped. He wanted to be friends. Asked what the H&ll you got under the hood? I took his money and said...MORALS
Sorry for the long post...

May or may not be a good idea, but on most performance boards they have a "kill zone" forum area for members to post stories just like this.

Just a thought...

I am contemplating a mild 75 horse shot for my LT1, once completed. I don' think I'll need it for the rice burners, but would enjoy the accelleration.

What is a mini spool...is that the same as a full spool rear end, or does it insert in the open diff?

Yep, mini spools take the place of the spider gears inside a regular GM differential. A full spool takes the place of the entire carrier.

Not very good for the street. It's tough on the axles, housing, bearings and tires. When turning corners both tires WILL turn the same speed which means one is going to skip/slip/slide. In a truck I doubt you would do much damage to the rear end becuase there is not much weight and the tires are allowed to slide, but you'll notice the tire wear I would imagine.

This isn't a stop-light drag race, and it's about my old '67, not my current '69 (which is lousy off the line, and has little top end, but Man! can it pull). The '67 was a SWB with a fairly fresh 327, Saginaw car 4-speed, and a 3.07 rearend.

I spent a lot of time driving hilly-curvey-windies when I was younger: the Ozarks are laced with them, and they don't intimidate me. Believe it or not, some also exist in Kansas.

One day about twelve years ago (after moving to Kansas for Grad school), I was driving between Lawrence and Topeka on old Rte 40. Behind me was a young guy (young guy: do we see a trend here?) in a Mazda RX-7. He started trying to play with me on the curves, wanting to pass. I'd have let him, at first, but he kept trying at the wrong time, and, more than once, he nearly got into a head-on with on-coming cars. He began to honk at me--I wasn't going slow, mind you--and shake his fist at me in my rear-view mirror.

Well!

Anyway, we finally hit a straight stretch without on-coming cars, so he popped to the left and accelerated. As he drew along side, he was flipping me off and screaming at me (I've got no idea what, as I couldn't hear him). That was the last straw--he'd done pissed me off. So, as he was pulling even with my front bumper, I dropped the tranny into 3rd and stomped on it. The old truck took off like a scalded jack rabbit, and this yahoo's laughing disolved into an open-jawed, double-take stare as I pulled ahead again, up-shifted into 4th, and hit a curve going entirely too fast but giving him no chance to finish passing me. In fact, he never got another chance and had to follow me the rest of the way to Topeka. When the highway became a city street and widened into four lanes, he did go around me but without so much as a glance in my direction.

Yes they do. Most of the newer car websites have them, but they usually end up in a bit%# session on what he did/she did.
I ususally don't get into street racing at all, especially on any street that has any sort of traffic or people walking around.
BUT, one night I was on my way back in from a meet at a McDonalds in town, I had my wife riding shotgun, and 2 friends in the back seat of my Chevelle. This younger guy in a newer Acura RSX-R whatever that actually means He was very persistant that I raced him before we got into town, he would shoot off from a light, chirping his tires and revving that poor engine to the moon. Just trying to get me to bite.
On a longer stretch of road between stoplights I accelerated to about 45, he was pacing next to me anticipating the jump, I downshifted to 2nd (th400) went from 45 to 90, shifted into 3rd with a hard chirp to look back and see him 7-8 cars back there
Another ricer car was following him, friends I guess, and a mustang full of girls that thought it was pretty funny that he just got waxed by old school muscle. I loved the feeling at the time, and so did my 3 passengers

Since my truck has been out of commission for about a week my unlce has been leting me borrow his 00 mustang GT Conv. auto trans I was getting about burnt out on homework so i decided to go pick u my girlfriend and go for a cruise since last night was the first cool night we've had here in long time. We cruising down a 6 lane highway, top dpwn, coasting up to red light and 2 new elcipses go flying pass me, me and my g/f laugh, cuz shes into old muscle too. well we get to the light and they are eyeing me and the eclispe closest to me gives that nod indcation deal like i wanna race. So ijust smile and shake my, like you gotta be kidding me. so thn they start revving their engines at me! sounded liek i was mowing my lawn. So i told my g/f friend fine, i dont see any cops, i show what a waste of money they are driving and put it in 1st. Ligth turns green they both launch off the line i coast till i gett he back tires past the white strip and give them about 2 car lengths. half way through sencond i caught the 1st one, and shifting to 3rd got the 2nd one when i let off at 80 i had a car length 1/2 on. They didnt even look over at the next light. I only wish we had been in my g/fs 94 trans am cuz that thing is unblelievebly faster then the ferd. but i could take any american car, be it GM, ford or mopar, over an import.

it is good to hear everyone's comments and stories . i must admit that when i was younger i was one of those youngsters who would challenge some of the older guys in town who had muscle cars/trucks. the big difference was that at 18 i had a beast of a muscle car myself (1978 camaro z-28) that had some aftermarket goodies. i allways showed respect for my elders win or loose.
