Shocks- Use the CPP or ECE shock relocators.
Bags- Put them where the coil springs are. Look here for bag pics. -Chris

Re: where to install shocks and bags i just put in my 8 piece notch
Hey gringoloco that link to the air bag install was excellent. That was exactly what i was hoping to find. I do have one question though. To get your truck lower do you add lowering blocks or just a different 4 link set? Thanks Josh

Re: where to install shocks and bags i just put in my 8 piece notch
gringo loco 8 inch notch i started with basically whats in the link you posted but it wasnt low enough for me so i put in a 8 inch notch and ill be installing a porterbuilt front cross member . so the front is basically a bolt in but the rear i need to think about, i was hoping for some advice / pics of what other members have done .

Re: where to install shocks and bags i just put in my 8 piece notch
I put a piece of tubing across between my notches and mounted the top of the shocks to that. on the bottom I made new trailing arms from 2x3 tubing and mounted the bottom of the shock directly to the arm. for some reason I dont have any pics with the shocks mounted.
You will also probably find out that you will have a hard time bottoming out an 8" notch with stock trailing arms. I cut mine down to 6.5" and with a 2" lowering block my stock arms were still hitting the frame. the 2x3 gave me enough clearance to bottom out the 6.5" notch. with a 6.5" notch it will sit like this............. |

Re: where to install shocks and bags i just put in my 8 piece notch
tracey the blazer looks nice. i was thinking the same thing about the tubing between the notches , has to be put in there anyway . i saw your build thread the trailing arms look good . didnt you mount your bags to the arms ? i have the cpp tubular arms and 2 inch drop blocks . this gives me more clearance than the stock arms and at this point the drive shaft is hitting the trailing arm cross member. when you get pics id like to see how you mounted the shocks and what about the panard bar?is that in the stock location on the frame?

Check out *****************'s crossmembers and brackets. You could put the lower mounts on the axle and the uppers on the cross brace of your notch.
They could be on the rear if you're not ruinning a Blazer tank. Mount shocks in the same fashion.

Re: where to install shocks and bags i just put in my 8 piece notch
for my 68 i am using stock rear trailing arms with a set up almost the same as the black trucks clint did from kpcomps but my shocks are run off of the fram and the trailing arm......i moved the trailing arm perches in 2 inches per side to avoid the frame which (although i had to section it) the cpp trac bar kit works.....i used kp's notch and cpps 2 inch blocks and i am totally bottomed ouyt on the top of the notch and i didnt cut it down any at all...ill have pictures posted soon for everyone to see.....and i can try to answer any other questions if you have them

Re: where to install shocks and bags i just put in my 8 piece notch
Build a notch. If your a welder that should be no problem. Get some 2x4 or 2x3 box tubing set the chop saw to 30 degrees and let-r-rip.

Re: where to install shocks and bags i just put in my 8 piece notch
ya, I built my 10" notch and ended up spending 60 bucks for all the material, plus the pride of doing it myself. If it's gonna be a daily driver or driven a lot, I would build mounts onto the stock link but closer to the front. I have heard that this is much more comfortable than running the bags ontop of the axle due to the leverage absorbing some of the impact of bumps. I'll hopefully find a picture of the setup on the arms tomorrow seeing as it's 1:53 am right now...

Re: where to install shocks and bags i just put in my 8 piece notch
that's the way I'd setup the bags and all. I couldn't find a picture, the guy who I got the idea from took the picture off of his profile. The red is where you'd need to notch the crossmember, the way I saw done was with some thick steel piping and just cut it in half so that the front of the pumpkin fits up inside of the notch in the piping. The black marks are for where the bags could be mounted. suicide doors makes the mounts that would work great on the top. It would be just like this http://*****************/RearUpperBagBracketDualPort.php but mounted in the inside of the frame facing over the factory link setup. The lower one could be identical to the upper one and hang off of the link and be welded onto it. If you weld a plate to the top and have it cantilever off, then you could weld 2 triangles on the underside to give it some structure against the link. Ofcourse they would be enough so that they would fit right over each other. |
