Carrier Bearing Bracket Broke !!!
Had this truck 'bout a year and now the carrier bearing frame (holder, bracket whatever you call it) has broken. Didn't know it 'til I changed oil last week so no telling how long it's been busted. Searched here and elsewhere and getting conflicting information. Do these have to be pressed on ?? Which one fits ??? (everywhere I look has 3 or 4 different sizes)
Or could I take the driveshaft out and get the bracket welded back together as a temporary fix??? This is my only ride so any suggestions would be appreciated !!!!

Re: Carrier Bearing Bracket Broke !!!
There are different style carrier bearings and they bolt to different style brackets. You will have to determine which style you have. Yes, they need to be pressed on.

Re: Carrier Bearing Bracket Broke !!!
It's bolted onto the frame. Already took off the top broken part (2 9/16" bolts)
Guy at Advance said '73's were a slide on but '72's were a press on. So which is it ?? Of course I question advice from an AdvanceAuto guy so thats why I came here !!!

Re: Carrier Bearing Bracket Broke !!!
This might sound kinda cheesy but I put a long stainless hose clamp all the way around, from the top flat around the bearing housing. If -- no when it breaks ---- it really has no place to go cus the top flats are still held together with the compression. It has gotten me out of a bind. steve

Re: Carrier Bearing Bracket Broke !!!
Also you can pull the shafts, pull the yoke off--mark the yoke to driveshaft for match up when you go back together--- use a drift punch and knock off the old bearing. Put some neversieze or coppercoat antisiezeing paste on the bearing landing and use your drift again and knock your new bearing in place. Move around the inside race so you don't egg it. put your rubber/housing back on, dope your yoke and put some german torque on the nut ( guten tight), back with the u-joint and there you are. sounds like it sucks but if you can get the yoke nut off ( pipe wrench and long boxend and bfh)you are more than half way. If you can't get the old bearing to move just crack it with a cold chisel.
