Mileage rollover.... can you tell?
Hey all, simple question, has the mileage on my truck rolled over? I bought the truck off my uncle back in '96 and he never asked if the mileage had rolled over on the truck. I know y'all will ask about my interior.... soooooo the seat was plenty worn out and the driverside door was fatigued (it cracked on the upper hinge) BUT looking at the frame and susupension components, it didn't appear to have that many miles on it. Can you tell from the odometer if it looks like it's rolled over? I bought the truck with about 77K on it (or was it 177K????) All opinions are welcome but please provide why you think it's rolled over.
This should be fun. Thanks all.

Re: Mileage rollover.... can you tell?
I don't know about your state but sometimes the title will tell you, I know on my truck it says in the odometer column "Exceeds mechanical limits" but my truck was a one owner truck so I already knew that. As old as these truck are I would say it has rolled over atleast once if not more.

Re: Mileage rollover.... can you tell?
I was always under the impression that if that was written on the title then it had rolled over atleast once but they may just put that on there once a vehicle gets so old. You may be able to contact your local DMV and find out, but that is a complete shot in the dark I have no clue what kind of records they keep on that kinda stuff, never hurts to ask though.

Re: Mileage rollover.... can you tell?
i'll give you guys a hint if the numbers aren't perfectly straight on the mileage its rolled over my dad was a car dealer and always said thats how you could tell when the mileage had rolled over, if they are all straight then its original i'm sure this could be just a myth but i believe it to be true

Re: Mileage rollover.... can you tell?
That is a myth. They can be crooked with 10,000 miles on there. The little white plastic tab on the back that holds the numbers from going wild can be brittle, or just have holes too bug from poor stampings. (I've seen a few where the holes were to big.. be it from wear or poor stampings, no tellin)
A couple ways to get a better guess... original engine? probably original miles original upper ball joints (rivited instead of bolted on) probably original miles carpet/rubber mat torn/worn where your heel sits with your foot on the gas probably a bunch of miles... rolled over. worn thread on the pedal pads is a good indication of lots of miles, although, it could also indicate a lot of stop and go driving. Steering column slop.original turn signal switch (horse shoe plug would be original or at least a very old replacement, flat plug would be newer) Cab mounts and other rubber bushings underneath...condition |

Re: Mileage rollover.... can you tell?
I would love to beleive that my Panel only has 38,000-but I would hate to think it was 238. I'm happy with 138.
One thing, though. I know that my Panel has been in a somewhat minor crash on the right front. When I got it, the brakes didn't work very well. Luck of the draw, I pulled the right drum off first, and it was after market and shot. I ordered 2 new ones and when I pulled the drivers side, it was original riveted on and not very worn at all. Looked like about 38 thousand worth of wear. Who knows? Maybe...

Re: Mileage rollover.... can you tell?
original engine? probably original miles
It appeared to be original, as did the tranny. The engine bay looked untouched when I got the truck (and it still had points.) original upper ball joints (rivited instead of bolted on) probably original miles When I rebuilt the suspension the ball joints were still rivited to the top A-arm. carpet/rubber mat torn/worn where your heel sits with your foot on the gas probably a bunch of miles... rolled over. The truck has household type carpeting in it when I got it and it was all cut up worn thread on the pedal pads is a good indication of lots of miles, although, it could also indicate a lot of stop and go driving. Rubber gas pedal was missing, other pedal wear appeared ok Steering column slop.original turn signal switch (horse shoe plug would be original or at least a very old replacement, flat plug would be newer) Truck was converted to floor shift. I tossed the column the first week I had it for a "4 speed" column (no shifter on it) so I don't remember how it looked or worked. Cab mounts and other rubber bushings underneath...condition Back bushings actually looked good, front were totally shot. As far as NY as SC the mileage thing where it states (exceeds mechanical limits) is supposed to be filled in on vehicles over X number of years old or if the mileage is unknown. I've asked the DMV before and there records only go back so many years. Oh well. Almost everything is new anyway thanks for the help all! I'm going to stick with 95K until someone can prove otherwise I have no plans to ever sell this truck.

Re: Mileage rollover.... can you tell?
Mine has 244k miles, and the odometer looks straight except for the last number is 1/3rd too low....

Re: Mileage rollover.... can you tell?
Everybody knows it is the reflaction of light off of a solar baloon that causes the odo t look crooked.
