Insurance hassles
I'm new to this forum and so far I'm impressed. Its been hard to find a place with as much info on these trucks as StangNet has for my Mustang. With that said, I'm hoping to get some info on the 1792 blazer my girlfriend owns. It was recently hit (while sitting in front of my house) by a drunk driver. Her insurance company has valued the car ~ $3,600. I agree with the appraiser I hired who claims its closer to $7k. While I was going over the valuation statement that AAA provided us, it appears they are trying to compare her 1972 K5 Blazer CST, with 4wd, auto tranny and 350 to 2 1972 K10 Blazers 4x4 with 6 cyl engines. My question is this:
When I looked up the K10 I found info on trucks and suburbans. Did the '72 Blazer come in a K10? What WAS the K10? What might the insurance company be talking about? They didn't include any pictures so I'm having trouble figuring this out. Thanks! --Jonathan |

All Blazers are K5's, but they are a half ton truck as is the K10. Your Blazer is much more rare and worth more than a Pickup. They base model Blazer came with a 6cyl. CST is the "top of the line" and more valuable than a base model.
I would search collectorcartraderonline.com and craigslist.com and print out some compairable rigs to get a basis for value.

That's what I thought. So the truck was the K10 and it wasn't a "Blazer". I've already scoured the net looking for comparable rigs and I believe that hers is worth closer to 7K. (it needs some TCL to be worth more) Happily the drunk obliterated her little Honda before it was pushed into the Blazer, which sustained a bit of frame damage in the rear (the bumper was pushed under the Blazer) The good news is that if I can go back to the insurance company with this new valuation and tell them why they are looking at the wrong cars, then I can get more money for the g/f. If she winds up getting a decent settlement, she wants to do a frame swap this winter (I love a woman who wants to learn to work on her own car) If thats the case, you'll see more posts from me in the coming months.

Can you post some pictures of the rig. It might help us give you a value. We should be able to look past the damaged areas. Rust is of course the largest devalueator (not sure if that is a word, but it sounds official)

Just do a quick search on e-bay for Chevrolet, Blazers, 1969-1972, and you will get a quick idea of value. Don't confuse bids with selling price which only happens at the end of an auction. There are price guides for collectable vehicles with Blazers showing values based on model and options. A complete unrestored driveable blazer's value is based on options, body rust-condition, etc.

Unfortunatly the only pictures I have online right now are post-accident photos (mosty of the Honda)
www.wiski.com/shannon/loss I haven't found any rust on the body, and with the exception of a well repaired dent that was on the passenger side door, the car looks good on the exterior. The interior needs a little TLC (front seats aren't original, rear bench needs to be bolted down in the front, new carpet is needed). I've looked all around the net (eBay, cars-on-line.com, kcclassicautos.com and others). I've seen K5s between 4,500 - 13,000. I believe that Shannon's is somewhere in the middle.
