burb goes in for gears tomorrow... How does $1200 installed sound?
Four Wheel Parts is quoting me $1200 out the door for front/rear 4.56s on the burb. I have used them before to regear and I had no complaints. Genuine Gear ring/pinions. Works out to about $450 for gears & install kits, and $750 for labor (~10 hours total or 5 hours/axle).
The majority of quotes were around $1500-1700. Price seems right, but I thought I would ask around and see what you fellas pay for gears installed.

not that i don't mind you hanging around us truck guys but you might gett better answers on the burb board. but that sounds about right too bad you can't do it yourself and put the 750 into somthing else

there's a guy here that everyone goes to...he charges $150 a rear for labor
so in my opinion, thats an insane price...but i'm in an "economically challenged area"

Is that with the rear out minus material cost? How's that work?

Re: burb goes in for gears tomorrow... How does $1200 installed sound?
So, $300 for labor + $450 for gears & master install kits. $750 total. Not too shabby!
I have personally had GREAT luck with 4 wheel parts gear installs. Plus, I got my truck back today! I couldn't believe it. I NEVER get my truck back on time- I always have those trucks where something goes wrong and it takes 2-3 more days then quoted. I had a rental car, so that saved me some $$$. Gears worked great, only problem was one of the auto hubs stuck after they put in 4-hi to test and put it back to 2-hi. I drove off, and something felt pretty wrong- the steering had a horrible wobble when I drove over a bump and it was pulling to the left pretty hard. I put it in 4-hi, and it totally went away. Put it back in 2-hi, and the damn LH hub still wouldn't unstick. I had to get it home, jack the tires off of the ground, and roll the hubs back to get it to unlock. Then the problem was all gone. Apparantly with crappy auto hubs, if one size locks, it will pull the other side in and out of lock causing weird conditions like this. Manual hubs are gonna be a must before the first snow falls... Oh, and I found out the dang frame has a crack off of one of the power steering bolts- I have done this with Chevy's before, it's not a BIG surprise, I just assumed Chevy got it right after almost a 20 year run. I will have to get it to the frame shop soon...

wow that sucks man about the frame. Warn hubs are a great upgrade for theose auto junk hubs. SO with some new hubs and a nice weld job you will be in pretty good shape

Re: burb goes in for gears tomorrow... How does $1200 installed sound?
I think you are right chief. I HOPE so anyways- I have all of my stereo stuff to put in once I get passed the mechanical stuff.
I did install a dual steering stabilizer setup tonight (end to end Skyjacker). It was pretty funny, the stock stabilizer had no resistance at all- so it wasn't helping one bit.

That frame crack is probally the biggest cause of your death wobble...
Search up DIY4x4 and buy both one of his bolt on, and weld on steering box braces, then weld that crack up, get the whole mess straightened if need be, and brace her up, shouldn't have a problem again.

Re: burb goes in for gears tomorrow... How does $1200 installed sound?
I brought the axle to a guy and he charged me $100 for labor of gears and also rebuilt the axle from plate to plate with me supplying everything.
