A few new parts for my best friends 66

As most of you know that follow this site closely...my oldest and best frend was killed in a motorcycle accident this summer (Deals Gap). His parents gave me his 66 Chevy we built 20+ years ago. The truck is very nice and well cared for but it screams..."re-done in the 80's". I am trying not to change the truck but to "update" it a little. Added Corvette ralleys, got rid of the fake braded hoses, swapped out the HUGE yellow super coil for a smaller one, changed out the ridiculous small chrome air cleaner for one that looks a little more stock for a 327 (look closely..what u think its from), painted me up some valve covers to replace the terrable M/T tall finned covers and finnally found a great deal on a set of "custom" pillar moulding. Working on getting the 12" round steering wheel replaced with one a little more period and eventually I would like to put a trim package on it.

While you all are here.......He had put 3/4 ton springs in the truck front and rear because it was his boat hauler. I am planning to drop the truck a little bit with drop springs only. I dont want it stupid low and I am not intereted in doing drop spindles..something simple like a 2 and 3 spring kit will do. What are your opinions??????

Oh yea...the 1985 F-150 mirrors are going too!!!!!

\Probably stock long arms with round spots......I have some old OE ones I am playing with at the moment to see what I think.

Whats wrong with drop spindles? It is the quickest and best way to lower it. You maintain all your steering and suspension geometry, not to mention a much better ride. Rear springs can be cut or just order ones to match the spindles, or better yet go with air ride all the way around!

Rear coil springs can't be cut unless you have a way to bend another pig-tail in at the end... But I do agree about the spindles.

Thats correct...you can cut the fronts but you have to replace the rears. Supposedly if you cut 3/4 of a round off the fronts its about a 2" drop.

There is nothing wrong with drop spindles....I was just going to take the easiest and cheapest way out!!!! Cut the front...FREE. Rear drop springs....$89.00 plus shiiping from AIM and an illignment that it needs anyway.

$150 total......drop spindles alone are more than that.

Nuthin wrong with that. Some people swear you are compromising the structural integrity of the spring by cutting it. I fully disagree. That truck is going to look sweet with a little drop.

HMMMM Would it be possible to bag a set of leafs (including mounts) off of a 4WD and take out a leaf or two? Then you could eliminate alot of weight and those bulky trailing arms and hardware. May have to use some traction bars tho....

edgar,have you ever picked up a pair of leaf springs?very heavy.use a cutoff wheel or bandsaw to cut the spring,don't use a torch.two inches should be fine,any more will place the a arms at severe angles.
