froze body mounts
going to start installing a body lift tonight and got all the nuts off the but can't get any bolts to come out, just lift up through frame mount and the back most bolt won't even do that but a half inch up. Looks like the back 2 bolts are tack welded to the body too. Any tips? I am to the point of griding off head then airhammer down but figured would see if there is any other ways people have done it. thanks.

Re: froze body mounts
just have to grind off the tack welds between the bolt and the body. probably a good bit of rust too.........may need some single jack persuasion

Re: froze body mounts
I have the whole rig in the air with the porta power under that one bolt and I jump up in bed and still no movement.

Re: froze body mounts
When I replaced mine, all the bolts with the exception of the two in the rad area, were tacked to the body. To make things worse the previous owner had put in a spray in liner. I used a Dremel to grind the tack welds and was able to do a very clean job that did not wreck the liner. Time consuming but worth it in the end.

Re: froze body mounts
I messed with it a little tonight and my quesiton was, on the rear bolts that are a carriage type bolt if i grind the head of the bolt off and try to air hammer down with the square flange on the top of bolt fit down that cast in sleave/tube type deal in the main body support (Make senase)? if so I will hammer down. If not i would prob shoot myself in foot doing that and wedge the square flank part of carrage bolt in that tube deal.

Re: froze body mounts
Your right it may not fit thru the tube, any chance you could cut the nut off and hit it up from the bottom? Jim

Re: froze body mounts
cool, thanks for the info orange72. I could prob go up with all the bolts except the veyr back ones since they are in the C of the frame and not on a bracket off the side of the frame

Re: froze body mounts
I just took off the last of my body bolts as I'm doing the PS floorboard, I cut the nut vertically twice and chiseled the slots I created. Looking at the area your talking about you should be able to fit the grinder w/cut off wheel in there. Problem is you won't have much room to swing a hammer. I think I read you have a port a power tool, you could press it up with that. Jim

Re: froze body mounts
yeah, I was using the porta power on the rear most bolt. Had the back tire off the ground even pushing up on just that bolt plus jumping in bed and beating against the foot of the porta power and no luck

Re: froze body mounts
that was another drastic measure. Might try to heat that body tube deal to see if that helps. Am gonna try the air hammer next. Need to order body mounts. Got the engine and trans/case pulled today and almost have the drivetrain out of my truggy out to swap maybe tomarrow.

Re: froze body mounts
Well I got the mounts out and new ones in. Just need to find longer bolts for a few spots, Couldn't find a 13" long 3/8 bolt so got some all-thread for those 3 long ones. That is if I keep the 3" body lift. It's huge now so may cut the pucks in half.

Re: froze body mounts
Mc Master-Carr had the carriage bolts, I think they went up to 13", that I used. J

Re: froze body mounts
I called all the machine shops and bolt shops and 10" was the longest. Since it is right next to that other bolt I'll just put lock nuts on each end of the all thread. I'm just using regular bolts on everything instead of carriage so won't hardly be noticeable. Then I'll bedliner then whole interior.

Re: froze body mounts
Good luck finding the long bolts, I have been looking for nearly a month.
1/2"D, 14"L with 13-20 thread, nothing. I may resort to some allthread also.

Re: froze body mounts
Home Depot had the long carriage bolts. I bought a complete set of bolts from LMC for my 70. Then I went to home depot to make a set for the 71. The only one they didn't have was the front mount in the floor pan
