Radio Wiring Diagram

I am putting in a new radio in my '85 GMC. Does anyone know where a color coded wiring diagram can be found? Everything about this truck is factory. The AM/FM that was put in new in '85 just came out for the first time today. So I can assume that the wiring has been untouched.

Re: Radio Wiring Diagram

what part do you need? Yellow is constant battery (memory), red is ignition on, black is ground. It's fairly straightforward, you can look in the door jambs for wire colors, typically the one with the black stripe is the negative side.

Re: Radio Wiring Diagram

Thanks for the help. I was too lazy to take everything apart to find where everything went to. I had bought this nice Kenwood to go in the truck and it doesn't work or every speaker in the truck is junk. I don't want to cut out the dash to make a newer square radio work, so I will find another radio somewhere.

Re: Radio Wiring Diagram

does the faceplate display come on? If so, take a 9 volt battery and tap each speaker wire pair to it- speakers don't like DC current, but for testing it works.

If you are looking to installing an aftermarket radio... invest in a harness adapter for approx. $10.00. They plug into your factory plug and very simple to install... and saves you A BUNCH of time. You can find them at you local Autozone...
