update on Large Marge
it's not only been forever since i posted on the board but also did any type of updates on my own project. so here's the update.........
well i've been hammering on the old Beast for a couple of months & i have the drivetrain done & for those who care to look here's a few pics.. i made the transmission & carrier bearing crossmembers out of a piece of heavy wall stainless steel pipe i had laying around. here i boxed part of the frame area where my carry bearing cross member will be & its where frame was welded together... here's a shot of the frame with the cross members(one's on the floor), body mounts, partial boxed frame & shock mounts made out of lowwer spring plates used to make the upper mount & widened VW rabbit lowwer shock mounts ,hey it's what i had & they work along w/adding 2 leafs to the rear springs. full frame shot w/the 425/400 combo .. another frame/mtr pic.. drive train is done except for exhaust.. full frame view cross members frame view from rear upper shock mount made from lowwer spring mount.. a widen VW Rabbit lowwer shock mount, heyyy it works..... Firewall reinstalled do u know how many spot welds it takes to put a firewall in?????????????? about a 100 million billion............ i had taken the firewall out because of the caddy mtr i put in it(i was told by someone on another board it would have to be be recessed a lot for the caddy mtr). well w/some extra work i was able to move the mtr wayyyy forward, put a couple of indents in it for clearance & was able to weld the firewall back in flush w/the outter firewall so there is no seam where the 2 pieces come togeter. my trigger finger is soar today because of all the spot welds. i spot welded the outside & inside of the firewall just to be sure &&&&&& heck it only took about 4hrs now tell me i didnt do some spot welding in this thing. outer firewall pic inner firewall pic 1 inner firewall pic 2 Power Brake bosster & MC i grabbed the stock pedal assembly off of Large Marge(3800 series) & got under the truck to check some stuff out. low & behold the bolt holes of the pedal assembly were spaced the same as 2 of the transmission crossmember holes on the S10 frame so i used them for access holes & drilled some holes is the side & bolted it up. then i grabbed the 87 chevy pu 3/4ton brake booster & master cylinder i have & put it up against the pedal assembly & marked a spot to cut off. well after cutting on the pedal assembly & on some 3/8th plate i came up w/this... picture 1 picture 2 picture 3 picture 4 picture 5 picture 6 here's shot w/the booster & MC on the pedal assembly, it still needs a little fine tuning but it's going to work 1st & 2nd Picture show the top plate & sides welded into place. the pedal assembly will bolt up to this. also look where the lower part of the pedal assembly hit the frame, on the bottom is where the access holes are to bolt it to the frame.. you'll also notice in this 2nd Picture the shaft that the pedals ride on, i still have to run a gusset to it & weld it so the shaft doesnt move.. in the 3rd and 4th Picture u'll see the power brake booster hanging down, i measure this & it's 1 1/2 inches good to go as far as i'm concerned &&&& in this last Picture u'll see there is enough clearance so the booster wont hit the floor. things that still need to be done.... the pedal arm needs to be made longer... spacer needed for pedal arm on cross shaft... clevis rod need to be made shorter.. then it's time to add some plumbing
