4-6 drop and wheels

My 4-6 drop and disc brake kit from ECE will be here tomorrow. I will be installing on a 67 short bed and my axles are being redrilled and the flange is being turned down.

My wheels are Eagle 211 (torque thrust look a likes). The front are 20x8 with 4.5 backspace and 255/40/20 Toyos. The rears are 20x10 with 5.5 backspace -- I plan to use a 1.25 inch spacer because 5.5 is to much backspace. The rear tires are 295/40/20 and my final backspace will be 4.25.

I am 90% sure 4.5 is the correct backspace for the rear but Eagle only made the 211 20x10 with 5.5 and without cutting down the wheel studs the spacers need to be 1.25. The end result will be 4.25 backspace. the question is are the tires going to rub? Keep in mind I am using the narrower rear end.

ECE sells 6" rear coils....I think they are about $115 for a pair. www.earlyclassic.com

4.25" shouldn't rub on the inside but might on the outside @ 6" of drop.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: 4-6 drop and wheels

Early Classic is correct but I think GMS Pauls sells them also.

Scoti

I not affraid of the inside. If I have a problem it will be on the outside. One correction is the rear wheels are 20x9.5 not 20x10. I hope that extra .5 inch saves me. Anyone else with any thoughts?

Eagle 211 is available in 5" BS as well (PN# 2119-2983).

Eagles web site lists many backspaces. I originally ordered 20x5 with 5" backspace and 20x9.5 with 5 inch backspace. They sent 20x8 with 4.5 and 20x9.5 with 5.5. I questioned them and they advised they only made the 20x8 with 4.5 and the 20x9.5 with 5.5 regardless of what thier web site said. Many phone calls to Eagle confirmed what the distributor said.

Re: 4-6 drop and wheels

It is done except the rear spacers are late..... They will be here Wednesday. My measurements tell me my 20x9.5 wheel with 4.25 total backspace and 295/40/20 tire will work great. After 4/6 drop, disc brakes, redrilling the axles, adding a 1.25 sway bar, cross shafts, ball joints, tie rod ends and idler arm I found a bad u joint on the test drive. So I will be replacing u joints in the morning.

I'd like to see and hear how that works out as well. I have the same kit for my burb and have been trying to figure out what BS I will need for 20's front and rear.

It looks like you're trying to link it directly from your hard drive. You either need to upload it to a picture site then link it from there or, go ahead and use the "Manage Attachments" button on the "Reply to Thread" screen to upload it directly to the board.
