Re: new 99.00 dollar 400 engine
Sweet deal there for sure. Those look like stock dished pistons to me. The block or the heads were worth your purchase price. I love SBC 400's...

Re: new 99.00 dollar 400 engine
Not meaning to have anyone jump back at me here on this one ,but the 400s have a reputation for crack problems.
I would, if I were you, get the block apart, cleaned and magged for cracks. This should be about 75.00 ... Good peace of mind. I have said all I wish to say about the 400 SB. So I will not reply to any further. |

Re: new 99.00 dollar 400 engine
The heads are probably TBI heads, not bad heads, just not vortecs. Heck of a deal, I bought a 95 350 1-piece rear main seal for $7 on ebay, complete! It needed to be bored, but the crank polished and away I went. Some people just want stuff gone sometimes!!

Re: new 99.00 dollar 400 engine
I like TBI heads on trucks..Better Low End Torque, better gas mileage.

Re: new 99.00 dollar 400 engine
Congrats on the find!
I just picked up a good-condition (60K running) LT1 w/ aluminum heads and brand new Crane Roller-Rockers (Gold Series) for $300 that I've torn down to start building up. A 400 for that money is a great find! |
