paging Capt Kaos, or anyone...

Chris, how and what did you do to the underside of your cab? I am about ready to start prepping the cab for paint and need to find the best way to "finish" the underside of it. My cab is rust free so I really don't need to do any blasting...what do you recommend I do?

POR-15?

Undercoating?

???

BTW - glad you have resurfaced...what have you been up to??

Yeah i would think that por 15 would be a good choice, but that truck bedliner would probably do a hell of a job also. either way would work.

According to his site, he used POR-15:

Jeff,
I used POR15 on the bottom of the cab. It sucked! I stripped all of the crud off and will NEVER do that again. If the cab is in good rust free shape, I recommend some type of roll on sealer like Durabak or something simular. It only requires you scuffing up the paint ( which is the best sealer/primer if in good shape ) to apply it.

I actually haven't "resurfaced", I check this board more than CT, I just have been real busy at work and can only post when I have time. But it is nice to me missed. What have I been up to, not much, work mostly. I am still trying to get the Jimmy running, but the frog filled rain has been getting me...

I was thinking of using POR15 on my floor board. It's quite rusty in the corners and was going to use this stuff and then put some sheet metal patches in. Why did you not like it? Is it not good stuff in general, or just the application you were using it on?

For rusty surfaces, POR15 is all I would use. For putting on the bottom of a smooth not rusted galvanized cab bottom, it sucked. POR15 doesn't bond well to existing paint, so you have to remove it. It also doesn't stick well to bare galvanized metal.

If your floorboards have rust, I would definitely use it. If it isn't rusty and the paint is good, I wouldn't. I would just scuff it up and paint it.
